Saw on the news tonight that the New Orleans CBS affiliate is in a scuffle with Direct TV that if not cleared up will cut off programming beginning November 2nd. Is there any easier way to get a throng of pissed off people to call Direct Tv and beg for a deal?

If Huey Long were around today, he wouldn't stand for this shite, he'd invent some tax or penalty to prevent this scuffle from fricking up watching the game

DirecTV does this exact same thing about 5 times a year with different networks, but it always gets worked out just before the deadline. Nothing to worry about.

He would arbitrate, becoming a bridge between the two sides.

I was thinking the same thing. He would probably create his own network to air the game.

I could get behind that... problem is, there's already an "HLN"... he'd probably just have to take that. "Thanks for the network, stupid"

What does Direct TV have to do with CBS? That's an over-the-air network.

I know Direct TV is in a scuffle with Fox. However it has nothing to do with their main channel. The only channels from them that will be shut down is FX, FX Movie Channel, National Geographic, and Fox Sports. So I am thinking it will be CBS sponsored cabel networks and not the national network.

Saw a commercial on WWL last night specifically telling the Direct TV folks they won't be able to see the LSU-Bama game.........my guess is both sides will be fielding some angry phone calls over this.

DTV has been in contentious relationships with a number of networks for the past few years. I used them almost since they came into being but finally gave up. The backbreaker was not getting all my local channels (can get only 2 of 4) not to mention, they way HDTV is handled . I finally made the switch to DISH and could not be happier. For my likes & needs, everything about DISH is superior.

couldn't you get a set of rabbit ears, since you are local, as back up. Get a pair and connect them up early this week and test it out.

I left hard wired cable 3 years ago and went to DISH, happy camper here.

DirectTV FTW, and this will be settled before the deadline...like all their "disputes" are.

This does involve several local stations across the US that are owned by Belo Corp. One of the stations that Belo owns is WWL in NOLA. Belo and DirecTV are in negotiations to continue to carry their local stations. Only a dispute about how much Belo wants DirecTV to pay for each of their subscribers that get their local channels that Belo owns. If WWL goes off of DirecTV in NOLA on November 2 then it's because Belo is pulling them off. DirecTV wants to keep them on going with the current pay per subscriber rate while they still negotiate. Belo pulled the same shite with Dish Network and Time Warner last year. They eventually reached a deal at the last moment and no channels were pulled. Belo Corp. stinks.

I'm probably wrong, but I would imagine that Directv is prepared to broadcast another (out-of-area) CBS affiliate if this came to pass.

They can't do that. FCC doesn't allow for that to happen. If it does go black then anybody within the New Orleans area can just plug an antenna to their TV and pick up the game.
