Can we expect Burrow to run more frequently this season?

Last season apparently the play calling was driven by the fact the QB depth was very shallow with Brennan being hurt at the beginning of last season. Toward the end of the season we saw Burrow carry the ball a lot more frequently. At least it seemed that way. I don't have the stats to tell the real story. Can we expect Burrow to run more frequently this season?

And if so can we expect more playing time from Brennan to take some of the pounding away from the QB position?

I think So.

Maybe not like the A&M game but he’s a runner.

He has that weapon in his arsenal and it makes him a much more dangerous player.

Plus I think Havinf the RO in your arsenal in a RPO based offense if very useful for when teams try and man up on you. (It’s a great play for any team who can run it. You even see it in the NFL when they have the right personnel)

Hopefully not. I like knowing that he can use his feet if he needs to but I hope we can ride our running backs a little more this season.

I think only as needed. If we have to run him to win a game we will...otherwise I believe they would like to keep him healthy and not risk injury.

That would be giving the ball to the running back

I guess the difference between the beginning of last season and potentially this season the run from the QB wasn't an option in the offensive scheme. IIRC didn't that kind of hurt us in the Florida game?

Then I'm probably thinking of the RPRO.

That usually involves a RB

I think Burrow will get fewer rushing yards this year and more passing yards. Increased rushing production will come from RB position. It's not going to be as necessary for him to run as nunchucks this year

I mean, if you’re looking at Penn State as the most likely look of our offense, McSorley was getting 140 carries a season.

We will check into/run a lot of ROs.

Yes, LSU will design more QB run plays for Burrow this year vs last year. More depth at the position and Burrow is a better runner and more durable than previously thought. His ability to run the football makes this offense really difficult to stop.

No, the primary motive to play Brennan will be to gain experience, not lessen the load on Burrow. But it cant hurt.

Id like to see Brennan get a drive of his own in the first and maybe the 2nd halves of each game. But at least 1 drive each game with the starters and not just play when the game has been decided.

Outside a legit QB battle or when the backup is a threat to run and the starter isn’t has anyone ever done this?

I wholeheartedly disagree. Burrow needs to take every snap unless he is hurt or we are up 30 in the 2nd half.

Ala Mickey Guidry 1986.

Brennan needs some meaningful time

I think so. It was there late in the season. Of course there's an increased chance of injury, but Burrow is smart and tough as nails. Having good running backs doesn't mean the QB can't be a dual-threat.

He is not the type of QB that you design a bunch of runs for, especially if you want him to last the entire season.
