Why isn’t that a surprise? Not being a smartass, I genuinely don’t know. Seems random from the outside looking in

The roster purging has begun and will be ongoing! Thanks and best of luck to those players who will be moving on...

Fun fact, Brennan Holt got the boombox as part of an NIL deal. The team liked it and asked Johnson if they could use it during games. He said yes. Then he entered the portal.

Goodluck to Holt.

He was never going to start here. He’s small and struggled with 88 mph pitching in scrimmages.

See this page from the preseason to see my thoughts.

I don't know much about him but I figured he'd be going down in competition, so I'm a bit surprised.

Seemed more like a Nicholls type move.

Oklahoma State was the school that recruited him the hardest coming out of high school. If it wasn't for LSU being his dream school, he would have ended up there. I hope I'm wrong and he can find success in Stillwater

Johnson doesn't put any emphsis on the running game so Holt's assets, or Gio's, don't mean much at LSU.

meh

I think he just puts emphasis on getting on base.

Gio's problem wasn't that he didn't hit for power. It was that he was just as likely to strike out as those that could hit for power.

He will not start next year at OSU. I think this isn’t his last portal venture. Scott & his mom are not big people. He will never get above 5’10”…. And he ain’t no Altuve

Johnson values players who can hit and get on base

He values guys who will battle and fight you. The mental toughness of LSU baseball is back

We just need to get the roster back up to the standard

I wished CJJ would rethink this.

Yes, and was absolutely incredible there. He's tiny, though.

ETA: Jay played the hell out of him in scrimmages, partially bc of injuries/load management but I'd also assume to see what he had/could bring to the table. I think Jay liked him but he's setting his sights higher.

Saw him bomb one over the Natty Sign at Alex Box on the fall scrimmage. Kid can hit

This never happened.

ETA: He did have one HR during the fall. It did not go over the intimidator.

He was 1 for 18 with 9 Ks during the spring. At no point did he hit well while in an LSU uniform.
