From Cody Worsham:
quote:

Myles Brennan averaged 2.87 seconds to throw, longest in the SEC this season.

quote:

He had 3.14 seconds in the pocket to throw, second-most in SEC
He threw the ball in less than 2.5 seconds on just 28% of attempts, lowest in SEC (completed 13 of 16).

That’s kind of misleading, as he held the ball long as shite. I don’t think his protection was all that good most of the day. Some had to do with him holding the ball, other times it was OL

Yeah it was maddening. He wasn't seeing the field at all, bailing on a clean pocket, etc. It wasn't good.

Yea, how did his game compare to Joe’s first game against state or Joes first game? Report back, my google broke.

no one with any sense can watch that game and come away thinking his protection was adequate. Interior Oline did their job but Deculus and Rosenthal got handled. Plus Brennan has less speed than advertised.

I think we found the problem. In Brady's first or early press interviews he said we would throw the ball in 2.5 sec or less. This is critical!!!!

Also one of the greatest attribute Burrow had was his decision/reaction time. This was discussed pre-draft a good bit.

Lastly, Brennan did not use his running ability at all to get positive yds out of busted plays. Burrow killed opponents at this.

And yet, he still held the ball and took the sack

He Can’t process like a playmaking qb should. Right now he’s the guy because we only have freshmen behind him. But he is not a long term answer.

joe's first game had him under center for the first time in his life in an offense he was still learning. it's not comparable. he's also just..imagine this..way better than brennan, which is why they brought him in to begin with.

All that says is he was good when his first read was open which only happened 28 percent of the time

That stat is misleading because it includes the scrambling time. Costello didn't have to scramble as much as Brennan. Any QB getting rid of the ball before 3.0 seconds did his job! Meaning Brennan did his job well therefore the coaches need to look elsewhere for the problems. The great news was Brennan's ability to extend plays however the majority of the times he had no one opened and threw it away as he should have.(hard to teach)

Brennan is NOT the problem! In fact, if he had NOT had his arm hit for the interception it would have been a TD! The guy was wide opened! That TD at that point of the game would have sealed a win for the Tigers! No, the Tigers have their QB the question is who is messing up the offense?

I would look at the WR's dropping passes and to work on learning how to get open after three seconds of any given pass play. I would also focus on the WR's working on blocking down field as well, they were horrible, especially on the WR screens. OL needs better instruction on picking up delayed blitzes and fast DE's on the outside. There were no unique plays to confuse the defense and put them on their heels.

EVERYONE who knows offense with a new QB never ever run pass plays that need development time. There were too many long plays called. Slants, slants, slants! Inside outside.

These fixes are all coach related and easily repairable!

However don't forget who really lost this game!
Tiger DEFENSE!

Looked scared and indecisive. He had time but had really bad pocket awareness and doesn’t seem to good at making plays when leaving the pocket. He looked slower than I anticipated as well.

You would too if you had several 6'8 300lbs. coming to crush you! LOL

Seriously, Brennan did excellently under the conditions presented to him! I would attack my OL and make sure they understand its unacceptable to allow sacks at the end of the game. I would attack my OC to make sure he understands we never ever throw long on a blitz. I would attack with a serious vengeance my DC to never, not change the defensive scheme after half-time! Then, and more importantly, I would kick my own butt for not knowing all of this in the first place before the game and changing it!
