As long as we don’t play him in more than 4 games this year...

2018: Burrow
2019: Burrow
2020: Brennan
2021: Brennan
2022: TBD

quote:

The Division I council recently approved a proposal that will allow student-athletes to participate in up to four games without burning their redshirt for the season. The rule will preserve a year of eligibility while still allowing some wiggle room for an athlete who hasn't yet used his or her redshirt season.

quote:

The significance of the rule is a player can appear in those limited number of games at any point in the season. If, for example, a coach needs to dip into his depth chart at the end of the season, he can do so without burning a freshman's redshirt. This will be crucial during bowl season when younger players are often called upon to fill in gaps on the depth chart for various reasons

Brennan backs up Burrow... AND can redshirt... as long as we don’t play him in more than 4 games.

Ideally, JM would stay and be our backup this year, but even if he doesn’t we can still make the Brennen redshirt as backup work (barring any injury to Burrow)

If I were in charge, Burrow would get 100% of the snaps in the early season cupcake games, save Brennan (if needed and with 4 game redshirt rule in mind) for the bigger games.

Basically Brennan is the backup only if we need him.

He isn’t burning his RS ingarbage time.

He plays if Burrow gets hurt basically.

If we are running out the clock sale and hand the ball off, it’s gotta be Sale.

I think LN leaving significantly increases the odds of McMillan staying. He’ll definitely get playing time.

Redshirt? We'll only have one QB.

Remember Burrows has been here 2 weeks

He needs reps early.

So leave him in VS SELA and La tech. By the time we get to the next “cupcake” we are at rice with only 2 games to go.

He has been here all summer..... not 2 weeks
They do 7 on 7 every week sometimes more than once.... they not drawing plays in dirt. He is as up to speed as everyone.... they have been installing offense all summer

Come one. Team run practices aren’t the same as a fall camp or a spring camp.

He didn’t have pads till equipment day.

He can use the fricking reps is what I’m saying.

You really think there were no coaches out there.... I can tell you they are... official practices are in pads... You think the coaches take summer off... the film every 7 on 7

If you have ever played high school football... it’s the same but on a bigger scale... 7 on 7 weekly coaches are there and the meet all summer
Qb can’t be hit anyway so pads are irrelevant

It’s not ideal, but we certainly don’t want to be “forced” to burn Brennan’s redshirt later in the season if there’s an injury.

I’d hate for Burrow to be our starter, but we lose Brennan’s redshirt later in the season because we played him in some meaningless early season games.

2021 season is more important than individual 2018 games versus SE LA and LaTech
