Interesting that Tre'Mond Shorts is not one of the six. I know some people thought he would be the center next season

My money is on Martinez

LSU offensive line coach Brad Davis has been tasked with the job of finding and developing the Tigers' next starting center.

Davis spoke to the media on Thursday and named six players that he is training to learn the position: Marlon Martinez, Kimo Makane'ole, Spencer Payne, Charles Turner, Fitzgerald West, Garrett Dellinger.

Backups at center last season behind Liam Shanahan were Turner and Xavier Hill.

Shorts is and should be a Guard. The offensive line may be able to completely turn it around in just 1 offseason with Frazier and Shorts coming in. They are both game changers. If we get Steen from Vanderbilt, the line could be one of the best in CFB.

He was a tackle at East Tennessee St, but I do think he'll be a guard at LSU

That’s what I meant. He should play Guard for us next season.

LT Frazier
LG Dumervil/Dellinger
C Martinez
RG Shorts
RT Tyler Steen ? Hopeful

I’m not sure about that LG spot or center yet. I know Dumervil came out as a Tackle, but I like his game and think he could slide in at Guard. Campbell could start, but if we get a guy like Steen, he may not start till his Sophmore season.

Nobody being realistic and smart saw Shorts at C, he's a starter at Guard for us. Smart money was always on Martinez, Dellinger or Kimo winning the job with West being the future. I really like our chances at having a quality 2 deep with this group, hopefully with West being #3 and redshirting

You don't think Bradford will start anywhere? Guard maybe?

Man completely forgot about Bradford, not sure how. I guess you could go

LT Frazier
LG Bradford
C Martinez
RG Shorts
RT Campbell/Martinez/Steen

If you get Steen it locks up another tackle spot. I guess I’m really curious about the center like your initial post OP. Could Hines play Center if need be to? Him or Martinez may end up with the Center spot.

The guy simply hasn't shown the discipline to do the most basic of things. Be in shape. Maybe with the new S&C coaches but I dont see it because that will always come down to self discipline

I think they're gonna put Frazier and Shorts on one side so they can focus on developing a center and getting the young guys experience on the right.

There’s been a poster for months now saying Dellenger should play C

That was my point. The other poster was throwing out Hines as an option to start at C.

I hope they develop 2-3 to play there. SEC game speed and push can change things quickly, so you need options. And, we need somebody that can step in right away...next year and the next and the next. If you want to be a playoff contender every year, you need a sturdy center every year.

That's close to my projection except I have Dellinger at RT. I also think Bradford will play at RG and Shorts will be at LG. That' just a hunch based on the fact that Shorts played LT at E Tennessee St

LT Frazier
LG Shorts
C Martinez
RG Bradford
RT Dellinger

You, Sir, are obviously a genius! Apparently, great minds do think alike...
