Can you imagine how boring that call would have been if It was Chris Blair instead of Jim Hawthorne?

No, but I can imagine how professional and accurate the call would have been with Blair. Hawthorne was HORRIBLE. Back in the days when you had to listen to his dumb arse because only some of the games were on tv was brutal. The only redeeming quality he had was when you where searching the dial for the LSU game, his distinctive voice was unmistakable. That's the only reason he's revered by some on here, nostalgia.

Hawthorne was not perfect but you can hear the excitement in his voice when something big happened. Blair ruined a lot of big plays last year on radio because he was so unenthusiastic. The 3rd and 17 play, he sounded like it was just another play. When Clyde took the whole Bama defense with him 10 yards for the 1st down to run clock out for the win, he sounded like it was a 2 yard gain. Like I said Hawthorne was not perfect but he had great calls on memorable plays that Blair lacks.

Hawthorne: "Gajan up the middle for 3". 30 seconds pass: "2nd and 8??????? for LSU".

"INTERCEPTED!!!!!!!!!
one one thousand, two one thousand- thirty one thousand: "no he DROPPED IT!!!!!!!".

It was IMPOSSIBLE to follow a game on the radio with his entitled, surly iconic-status arse. Once again, people loved him because he announced the games for 500 years, and he did have a distinctive voice. He tugs on the ole childhood memory heart strings, and I get that, but he wasn't qualified for the job.
