Blow out to Tennessee narrative

Narrative instead should be we would win in rematch , if we beat Georgia in Atlanta. We’re a totally different team and can beat anyone in the Country. Just beat unanimous #1. Cannot say we’re not unequivocally top 4 in college football with an SEC title to show for it.

Both teams have an argument. This will all play itself out though.

Game should have been tied at half and the second half is completely different in that case. About 5 plays that went against LSU in the first half that day that were really bad luck / LSU not quite believing they could win just yet.

Tennessee should just make cups like A&M did of that game bc that’s all they have to hang their hats on.

If we freaking beat UGA, we should be shocked/thrilled, and if they leave us out that’s understandable. This isn’t a national championship caliber team yet unless this is a big time down year.

Not sure how you can definitively say we would win in a rematch, but if you wanted to say that we're close to even teams now, that would be true. Tennessee would probably be a 4-5 point favorite on a neutral field

Coulda, woulda, shoulda.
Fact of the matter is Tennessee boat raced us at our own stadium.

We would not beat Ga or Tennessee, they are at a different level.

Exactly.
And if the roles were reversed the OP would be screaming a head-to-head win is all that matters.
Honestly, the better argument for LSU is to say Georgia shouldn't get in with a loss. They would have played the weakest schedule of the three SEC contenders and LSU would have a head to head win over them. LSU's argument vs Tennessee is weaker. The ONLY thing LSU can stand on is they would be SEC champs...to which the counterargument would be the ONLY reason LSU even got to play for the SEC championship is because Tennessee is in the East

You're right, and Tennessee deserves to be in over LSU because of it. But the fact of the matter remains that if you paid attention to that game you would have seen LSU wasn't as far off as the score indicated, and you would have been less surprised by LSU's current position. LSU was outgaining them in the first half, spotted them 10 points, had two questionable 4th down spots that left points on the table, and even after all that were a Jaray Jenkins catch away from being within 6 at halftime.
eta. oh yeah and your best defensive player played 8 snaps.

It was a pretty screwy game. About 11 possessions each. Our total yards and TOP was pretty close, we just couldn’t put it in the EZ. We held them to field goals I think 4-5 times. Those first two TDs hurt. The turnovers on downs was kinda weird too.

Why would this be the narrative? Tennessee could easily say that was a one off performance, considering that they have dominated teams for basically the entire season. We have had some really good games (Ole Miss, Florida, Bama) and also some really bad games (FSU, Auburn, Arkansas)

Also that we beat the team that beat TN handily. So looking at it as one of those circle jerks that happens a lot mitigates some damage.

If they beat Georgia, they ARE a national championship caliber team. All the reasons one might believe they aren’t that caliber are the reasons they probably aren’t good enough to beat Georgia. If they do win, that means they are a far better team than they were earlier in the season, including the Tennessee game.

"The ONLY thing LSU can stand on is" the UT game two months prior was played by a far lesser LSU team than the one on the field in December. We would have just beaten the team that recently smacked Tennessee.

The 4 best teams at the end of the season is what counts.
LSU is clearly better now because they figured a way to play their best player who happens to be a freshman.
If we win out, and Perkins balls out, it would be hard to argue against that.

I don't think that would hold up in court

quote:Yes, but Delly had just been hurt, Campbell out the day before the game, so there goes the left side of the Oline. Perk played only a handful of snaps.
And Tennessee beat LSU handily.
Redo that game now and things would be different.

quote:I don't expect non-LSU observers to lead with this, but it really is true. Really bad luck on a few plays, typified by the deep sack late in the 2nd quarter that ended with...a lucky recovery by UT and advancing the ball almost for a 1st, leading to a makeable 4th down. 8 times out of 10, that's a recovered fumble by LSU, and 1 or 2 of those would be a scoop and score.
