I realize that it was the end of the game and I realize that both teams were essentially going through the motions at this point, but what he did on that last possession is exactly what we need him to do more often. He took his man on the dribble, got around 10 feet and took an easy jump shot.

Too many times we have Blakenley and Hornsby sitting around the perimeter waiting to take a three. Gray is the only guard that constantly penetrates, but he's too short to hit the pull up jumper. Blakenley can be that slashing player that can create an easy jump shot for himself, he just needs to take his man off the dribble more often.

He needs to do it more I agree but today I don't think it was there.

Blakeny plays hard. He and Hornsby should play more.

I thought you were going to mention another Kentucky situation.

Yes, taking less exciting shots would be great for Blakeney. But he is a young full of himself player who thinks he needs a "heat check" after he makes two shots in a row. Should never have gotten the playing time he did to start the season. Low intensity on defense most plays.

I don't think that's the case at all. If anything, I think he has a tendency to get himself out of position.

After almost 20 games, how do you not know his name?

I was thinking of posting the same thing. The guy can elevate and get a good look On those mid range jump shots.

also if he misses you have Simmons and victor there for the put back.

Woof, our fans are hypercritical after a loss.

Every good jump shooter on the planet takes a heat check or two during the game. Additionally, his defense is 2nd to only Simmons on this team.

Seems like a girl name that would be incredibly popular at Walker and Denham Springs.

Blakeney, B-l-a-k-e-n-e-y, Blakeney IMO basically no one plays consistent defense on this team. No one!

As far as on ball defenders go I'd say patterson, Hornsby, gray.....team defenders...nobody.

I've seen Simmons too many times sit and watch his teammates get beat and not move a muscle.

Simmons is 1st on the team in Defensive Win Shares and Blakeney is 3rd. Quarterman is second, and I'd concede that he is likely the 2nd best defender, but Blakeney is definitely up there as well.

It helps that everyone on this board stares down Simmons on every play, hence the endless flow of criticism. If you think Simmons' defense is bad, you should watch the rest of this team every single time down the court.

Blakeney is one of our best defenders IMO. Up there with patterson and simmons.
Defensively he plays like a veteran. Offensively he is still learning his limits.
