They did what they could to try get Aranda, fortunately LSU did what was needed. They still ended up with a solid DC

I can make a pretty solid guess at what happened.
Aggy went to Elko who demanded to dollar ($1.8 Million per year-remember this number) and Aggy backed off. They probably believed they could make a better hire for that kind of money. So, they make runs at Pruitt and Aranda, who both eventually turn them down. Now, they're stuck paying Elko more than they wanted because he's the best viable option.
Que Aggy fans telling everyone how they wanted Elko all along and pretend that he's elite (he's not, though he is good). Its been a hilarious couple of days when you look at the whole picture.
