Beth Torina Interview
LINK

For those interested, she just did an interview and previewed the 2018 team and talked about her coaching career. LSU has played the toughest SOS 2 of the last 3 years.

Some notes from the interview:

Fall exceeded expectations, she saw a lot of players step up and players improve drastically

Defense seems to be a strength at the movement. Lots of improvement from different individuals

Beth speaks highly of the two transfers, expects major impacts from both at the plate. I've watched Schlattman all fall and Beth reiterated what I saw, she is outstanding offensively and will bring power to the middle of the lineup

She spoke very highly of two freshman in particular. Sunseri and Antoine seemed to be really well liked. Beth described Antoine had versatile, powerful and dynamic who will make a lot of explosive plays from the left side of the plate. Antoine most likely gets the nod early at RF. Beth thinks she's special
Sunseri is extremely versatile and pitch and hit. She does a lot of stuff really well. Kara Goff was mentioned a little, she has been impressive at the plate a bit all fall.

The sophomore class look completely different. Mindset, attitude and the way they play are completely different. Doyle and Springfield played tentatively at times a bit last year. This year both look to be much more aggressive and not afraid, look to see significant improvements from both. The staff loves what they see this fall. Andrews has worked hard this offseason and has maximized her tools at the plate. Look for her to try to power slap and drive more balls out to the gaps for extra base hits.

Beth raved and spoked highly of Maribeth Gorsuch, she is a completely different pitcher compared to last year. Expect to see her a lot this year. Beth truly thinks she will be as good as Hoover and Walljasper with more experience. Confidence level is really high, Beth cleaned up some things and she looks very impressive. Potential is through the roof. Expect Maribeth to make a major transformation this season and to play in a lot of different SEC games.

Overall she really likes this team. She usually is never completely happy with anything in the pre season. She is always cautiously optimistic. She was like this when Bell, Kloss and Simmons were here. She expects big things from this team though even though she specially didn't say it. A lot of talent and playmakers. Offensively we look to be much better overall this year, we have tweaked the offense this fall in terms of how its run.

Just wanted anyone who was interested to see this, I'll preview the team come early February! A lot to be excited about this year, see y'all in February!

I still just get blown away at the difference in you from football to softball. Softball you sound level headed, knowledgeable, mature, rational. In football, you sound like an emotional, irrational, 18 year old girl.

Thanks for the link and write up.

Sounds promising and exciting.

Defensive improvement was/is a must.

If we get Offensive improvement also that will be a giant cherry on top.

Then we just try to avoid injuries and see how the season unfolds.

Geaux Tigers

Do they have the pitching to win it all?

re: Beth Torina Interview
Well they have Hoover and wallsjasper back I think, so yeah

Could only be one person downvoting our two top pitchers back. Truly amazing. Has to be different people sharing a screen name.

I've been accused of downvoting everything lately, but in the Christmas spirit, I was generous in my positive votes today!!

Same to you. I honestly think there is a different poster that discussed softball, and football. Softball sounds solid, football like a kid.

Cool. I literally only watch when they get into the World Series so always appreciate threads like this about our programs that aren’t in the big 3.

I didn't downvote anything, I am excited to see Walljasper and Hoover kick arse senior year. Probably Eric and disgruntled parents who downvoted

re: Beth Torina Interview
But yes, pitching alone can carry LSU to a CWS.

How far we travel is all dependent on how we do at the plate. Dobson and Torina made some adjustments this fall, we saw improvements in different areas offensively so I'm cautiously optimistic. Every year comes with new surprises so I'm sure we will have someone will step up and make a bigger splash than anyone expects. Fall is such a hard predictor of success in the spring.

Doyle had a fanatastic fall, Antoine has been impressive, both the transfers have been smashing the ball all over the park. We will see a lot of different combinations. Catcher is still up in the air somewhat. I think all but 2 positions in the lineup are solidified.

If we can get Springfield, Doyle and Serrett all on the same page, LSU will do a lot of damage, then add in some talented transfers, who knows. It's OUs to lose this year but Oregon can be dangerous especially after adding Sanders

Is she expecting big things out of Dawson this season?

I absolutely said 357 does a great job in softball. Football is another subject. The justice kid is one of the worst posters on the site. Always negative, always bashing our coach and program. I proudly stand against that.

Apparently about 85% of posters agree with me. Then there are a couple, like you, who just downvoted to do so.

I'm expecting the softball threads to be much more tolerable with Dawson gone. Does that count?
