Best to play a position
Posted by Tiger365 on 5/4/22 at 8:45 pm42
I was thinking about LSU players who were amongst the best to ever play a position but never are used in the NFL for that position.
TM7 and PP7 came to mind as two of the best punt returners I have ever seen. It seemed that when both touched the ball, they were threats to take it to the house. I can’t recall seeing either (maybe because of their overall value) do it in the NFL.

Skyler Green too. We've had some good returners over the years
I remember at least one PR TD for Peterson in the NFL

I’m here for the pure nostalgia of watching the honey badger and PP7 return punts. Damn you, now I’m awake and watching YouTube videos

Tommy Casanova was a incredible punt returner

LSU Players in NFL career yards per punt return
(your OP got me curious)
7 in the top 194 - not too shabby
76th Eddie Kennison 10.0 (153 returns)
135th Kevin Faulk 9.3 (101 returns)
135th Patrick Peterson 9.3 (195 returns)
135th Trindon Holliday 9.3 (83 returns)
158th Todd Kinchen 9.1 (164 returns)
168th Jarvis Landry 9.0 (96 returns)
194th Tommy Casanova 8.6 (91 returns)
Kennison and Faulk were on same LSU team in 1995
Holliday and Peterson were on same LSU teams in 2008 and 2009

The easy answer is Billy Cannon

I have no idea why TM7 never returned in the NFL. He may have singlehandedly preserved the undefeated season vs. Arky and UGA

Peterson was the main punt returner for the Cardinals at the beginning of his career. When he signed the big contract they slowly started allowing him to do it less and less. They didn’t want to risk him getting injured as a punt returner.

I loved Skyler Green, but I would put him behind several other guys:
PP7
TM
Trindon Holliday
Kevin Faulk
Todd Kinchen (maybe)

I know Kinchen returned kicks in the NFL and pretty sure Boo Kennison and Holliday did as well. Want to say Kinchen had some KR TD’s.

The easy answer is Billy Cannon

He signed with an AFL team, and they moved him to FB and TE before the NFL/AFL merger. So, he never played RB as an NFL player.

Because it's the rant lol. Everyone else is talking punt returners and I brought up a legit different position

Maason Smith is gonna surprise some people on punt returns. I love the power move by CBK.
