we've got great talent and great coaches. the unknowns - QB. no doubt joe is the real deal, and we have a ton of talent at WR. experience and chemistry - will it come together? Oline. if will clap was back we'd be set. but he's not. we've got to have good pass blocking to prosper. I believe with the talent and depth and coach Kregg we'll have a good one, but this is a new line, albeit with some good experience in spots. running back - we know CEH will be solid. will the other guys provide quality depth. good chance they will, but.... only question on defense is the injury bug, especially for CB.

so, i'm hopeful, optimistic that this team could compete for a title this year, whether it's sec west, sec, or national. realistic - with that many questions, even with a lot of talent, realistic is 9-3.

I believe that this will be a fun team to watch and will play hard and give us some offense to build on.

I wish we could consider our Head Coach as being among them.

With the tough schedule and unprecedented questions at key positions, a 9-3 performance by O should be considered equivalent to 11-1 in any other year

Well...it'll certainly be spun that way, that's for damn sure.

9-3 is not good enough nor should it be. That being said I would take 9-3 depending of course how looked and who those 3 losses were too.

Based on what exactly? A spring game? A few passes up 55-6 vs Bowling Green and Indiana?

Hopefully not.
Huge inconvenience for fans.
Plus it's dangerous.

Does "realistic" mean "good enough?" Is that what you are aiming for?

For the sake of argument, let's say it's AU, UGA & BAMA.

What's the feeling then?

ETA: This has got to be bait to have someone use this as their signature, right?

Right??

My expectation would be the same if we would have hired Herman, Jimbo, Fuente or O. This was not a rebuild. LSU is built to win now.

Win, at least, a division in 3 years. Or find someone that can.

2008 and 2014 are probably the closest season in terms of uncertainty.

Going into 08 LSU had a Harvard transfer at QB and they were having to replace their bell cow RB (Hester) along with the heart and sole of the defense (Dorsey). Not to mention replacing 3 of the starting 4 DB's from the prior season (Steltz, Jackson, Zenon) along with their DC (Pelini)

Going into 2014 LSU had to replace Mettenberger, Hill, Landy, Beckham, Blue, Turner. That was just on offense.
On defense they had to replace two of the starting LB's along with two D-linemen (Ferguson and Johnson) who were largely disappointing anyway. At least both coordinators were back.

This season the defense should be very good, but the offense from coordinator to personnel is almost a complete unknown.

Considering that makes you a bit ill realizing that 08 and 14 were some of LSU's weaker seasons over the past decade. However, maybe the biggest difference between those two years and this season is that this season the defense should be good. The 08 and 14 defenses were very weak (relative to LSU's standards) which put so much pressure on the offenses to perform. Hopefully, the defense this season can hold the line until the offense finds a groove.

watching what film there is of Joe and hearing the accolades I believe he is. but, like I said, we havent' seen it, and even if he is, will he develop the chemistry with his receivers.

if you think he's crap, I've got to respect your opinion. not going to argue with you about an opinion. we'll find out this fall.

i'm not saying 9-3 is good enough, realistically that's what I would call if I put money on it. without money on the deal, i'll call for 10-2 regular season.
