This defense would be so much more dangerous if Battle could put things together. We have all been pretty critical of the kid, justly. He gets lost out there a bunch. I wonder if him having a game with some big hits, a turn over that he creates, and some PBU's would get him mentally in a better place to become a better player. He's been a liability so far this season.

he's a multi-year starter and a senior

might be a little past due for a "breakout game."

He did not look like an LSU safety last week or for much of the season.

He is the worst guy in the secondary. I'm not trying to pile on the kid. But he was a liability in the running game and the passing game. So what does he do well?

I'm kind of nervous how bad are the guys behind him. Is he playing just because he knows the plays? D? Like Welter?

Open field tackle is an open field tackle in my book.

Battle needs to hit the bench, he does not look to have "it" on the field.

He is constantly getting beat and could cost us a game.

Apparently he's the best at getting the defense lined up. After that I'm not sure what his strengths are. He gets abused at the point of attack and a lot of big pass plays are made on him.

this is about the same time dwayne thomas broke out as an animal in 2016. I don't think Battle has that in him, but all I really want from him is no more frick ups in coverage. feels like he has a mental lapse once a game which is enough to lose us a game.

I imagined Monroe would be starting at this point.

Dont think it's a matter of Battle "putting things together", you are what you are midway through your senior year. He's not going to suddenly become great.

If Monroe was healthy, he would probably be starting.

Me too, but Monroe is hurt and might not play at all this year from the looks of it.

That said, Battle has been solid and I'm not down on him at all. Holyfield got the better of him once, but Battle stood in there and took the hit and slowed him down enough that other guys were able to get there to finish the tackle. And on one of his other runs, it was Battle who laid the wood to Holyfield (the one on the sideline later in that drive).

The reason I was down on him last season was because he missing a lot of tackles. This year, I think he's been pretty solid in that department. He's been adequate in coverage, too. Other than the one TD against Georgia I don't think he's been too bad. And Ridley is a damn good receiver who just got Battle turned around.

I guess y'all didn't notice, but Delpit got burned on Georgia's first drive, but Fromm overthrew the receiver by a yard or so. Point is, even the best safety in the country can get beat by a receiver every now and then.
