Baseball=Underachieving
Think about it baws... With all of the talent we have had walk through this baseball program it’s inexcusable that the last title we won was back in ‘09.

We are underachieving. Everyone was talking about how this is Mainieri’s most talented, deepest, and best team, and yet they can’t hit, pitch, throw runners out, and play defense and just look completely lost out there. This is all on the coaching staff. Can’t allow your players to perform the way they are

re: Baseball=Underachieving
Honestly it would be one thing if they were fun to watch but they really aren’t that either. Just seem like a ship with no rudder. shite I’m glad Basketball was fun or it would have been a heck of a long offseason waiting for football. Hopefully it comes around for them but right now we will be lucky to win a strong regional much less a Super to get back to Omaha.

Yep. They are not fun to watch. This team has almost no energy and looks like they don’t want to be out there. Not use to seeing a team perform badly like this years team

Hit the nail on the head, coaching. So who would hire Nolan Cain, Micah Gibbs and Sean ochinko to be on their staff. Just go call andy canizarro and hire him back. People make mistakes. If not then Paul should be fired if we don’t make the cws. Everyone said this team was Omaha bound. And we can’t do shite right.

I don’t think they are underachieving. I just think that they are not that good

Missouri has a better overall record than us and Alabama has one less win.
Let that sink in to the “it’s early” and “that’s baseball” crowd.

re: Baseball=Underachieving
The team that you could really argue should won was 2013. That team was 57-11, 23-7 in the SEC which wins the SEC 99% of time except Vandy went 26-3 but we did win the SEC tournament. Now I will go to my grave believing the change in bats and the new stadium cost us that series. It was like using whiffle ball bats in the Grand Canyon.

Of course I get accused of making excuses by saying that so I ask, in all sincerity what coaching moves cost us the UCLA game we lost 2-1? Was it not having an experienced hitting coach that Ibarra hit 2 to the track? What call by the coaches cause Bregman to make an error? What mistakes did he make that would have beaten UCLA?

re: Baseball=Underachieving
The good news is that we are only one game out of first place in the conference. We need arms back. If Marceaux, Hill and Hess can make it back soon to the level they left at we should be a lot better off. We are going to kill our bullpen with out any quality starting pitching. We also need Hilliard and Walker to improve. Both are shells of what they were when they were starting for us.
We have to get some good at bats from our freshman. All are struggling. Hopefully Dugas will be back soon and Reid and Walker will not be out for a long period of time.

How much coaching experience did Andy have when he was hired?

re: Baseball=Underachieving
This team is a very interesting one to try to wrap your head around.

In theory, the player leadership for this team should have been off the charts. Individuals that could have been in the pros chose to return to this program. Normally you would expect those guys to grab the bull by the horns and demand better from the rest of the team. Yet, Watson made a statement recently about (paraphrasing)....mid-week games are hard to get up for. Those are NOT the words of a leader.

Couple that with the fact that Paul, while he obviously knows the x's and o's of baseball, has never seemed to be much of a motivator. At the college level, motivation is a huge part of the game.

Talent does not always = results. Motivation can be a significant part of the equation, and this team lacks it.

Everything usually clicks into place around this time

It hasn’t yet, but I still think it will & that will take us deeper into the post season

Broussard is going to get better the more he plays, we will see the Broussard from before the injury
Willis will be huge, hopefully this season but next for sure
If Dugas, Cabrera, Watson & Reid get healthy & Broussard gets going we will be fine

George has done really well his last 2 outings, he needed to get some confidence

re: Baseball=Underachieving
People are probably going to call me dumb for this but I think they are up there thinking too much and not just doing what they have done their entire lives. Not necessarily over coached but maybe they are given too much information. I see way too many strike threes looking making me think they are guessing a lot. I’m fine with taking educated guesses and trying to find your pitch before 2 strikes but when it’s 2 strikes you should go to see ball hit ball mode. Nothing in your mind but battling. This team doesn’t battle with two strikes. If they get two strikes the pitcher has one the battle and it’s over right now. Until that changes this team isn’t changing. Some of that is coaching some of that is player mentality. Reid has that mentality. Duplantis has had that mentality his whole career until now. I feel he was told during the draft last year he dropped because he doesn’t hit home runs and he made some changes to hit home runs but it has hurt him in other places.

re: Baseball=Underachieving
Can't really argue that we've done anything but underachieve to this point.

That said, we couldn't ask for a better time to hit the "weak" part of our SEC schedule. If we can manage to go 5-1 over the next two weekends I'll feel pretty damn good about our position.

We really need to wash our hands of this past weekend and move on. Just disastrous all around. The beautiful thing about baseball and our current situation is that we're nowhere near out of the picture. Just a game back of first place still. I ain't throwing in the towel.
