Baseball problem - CPM...

LSU can only have 2 paid assistants. Once AC left, CPM promoted Cain to head recruiter, and he has done a phenomenal job. However, he can't do any other task, such as hitting coach. So we are stuck with an inexperienced hitting coach.
This is all due to the fact that CPM does not want to recruit. If CPM would recruit, or find another AC, we'd be fine. Plain and simple.

I just said something similar in another thread. We're stuck until a third paid assistant happens or cain gets a HC job somewhere.

CPM has the same number of titles as Les Miles, who we ran off.

I understand that there is a ton that goes into being a HC, but the biggest tasks for a staff are to coach hitting, pitching and recruit/scout, so what does CPM actually do?
At Miss State AC was the hitting coach and brought in Gary Henderson to be the pitching coach. Blake Dean is doing a similar format at UNO.
If Mainieri isnt a hitting oriented coach, not a pitching coach, and doesnt recruit, what the hell does he do?

He doesn’t do jack shite
He cut tonights fricking 4 hole hitter this offseason. He’s one of only a handful of players on this team that actually has a clue at the plate. He didn’t know if Peterson even hit in HS.
He’s obviously not going out recruiting. He has straight up said that hitting coaches aren’t important. Kids can either hit or they can’t. So basically the entirety of our offense is based on recruiting, which he isn’t involved in.
Dunn handles the pitchers.

Both have an offensive mindset stuck in 1980. The fact that he cut a player with a career .400 OBP while continuing to trot out players like Hughes and Broussard tells you all you need to know about his offensive philosophy.

If this is true then Pail has become complacent and lazy. And if this laziness results in the hitting woes this team has then Paul should be terminated. Plain and simple.

Other than being the boss, what does Mainieri coach? Hitting? Pitching? Defense?

He is hard headed and doesn't believe he needs a hitting coach. He gets paid not to coach hitting or pitching. He also doesn't recruit. He has an ex pitcher coaching 3rd base. Pre season number 1 and can't swing the bats.

Yep, hitting coaches don't matter. That's why Skip swiped Jim Schwanke from OSU, then grabbed Turtle Thomas from Miami when Schwanke left. Boy, Paul sure is smarter than that dummy Bertman. Now he just needs to win four more titles to show just how smart he is.
