Did I miss something? I noticed, during the regional at Alex Box, that the pitch clock was not functional. Did the NCAA finally decide to do away with this useless peace of equipment?

It only runs when there are no runners on base.

With all my scrounging in rule books this weekend , I found one where the clock cannot be turned on during the post season and time is kept on the field.

I think it only applies for SEC games.

quote:

PITCH CLOCK
A visible pitch clock will not be used in conjunction with the regionals and super regionals. The umpires will be responsible for tracking the time between pitches and also the enforcement of this rule.

I actually thought of a pitch clock for NCAA baseball a couple of nights ago, not knowing that there is already such a thing. Wanted to start a thread about a pitch clock but figured I would get lambasted.

Why does every other batter have to ask for time before every pitch when he steps into the batter's box. Seems this would complicate the pitch clock concept since the pitch clock really shouldn't start until the batter is ready. Even the girls do it - and some even look at an armband with a list of plays like a QB wears. NCAA needs to get rid of some of that.

On another note, I played with a collegiate golfer a couple of years ago who said the NCAA was encouraging faster play, but I guess it hasn't stuck. I watched that girl from Washington during the Women's NCAA finals (the one who holed out on the last hole) - a couple of holes earlier it literally took her two minutes to hit two putts.

I could never understand why the clock was located in center field where the pitcher couldn't easily see it. If the home plate ump was the one responsible for monitoring the time, why couldn't he just keep track of it from the beginning? Has anyone ever seen a pitch clock violation result in a penalty for either squad?
