Meh. Mainieri does seem to always be extremely optimistic in his discussions about his team. He always seems to have "one of the best" something or other every year. Last year we had one of the best defensive clubs he's ever seen. The year before Kevin Gausman was one of the best pitcher's he's ever coached. This year will probably be about Nola or the outfield being the fastest he's ever seen.

Not that he's wrong for pumping his team up. It does create excitement among the fan base.

I cannot wait for baseball season... My favorite time of the year is when we have Baseball and Basketball to enjoy. Such a great time.

Well... We did.

He is.

Yeah why would he get excited about a guy who will go down as one of the greatest pitchers in LSU history? And the outfield is one of the fastest outfields you can possibly assemble.

I don't see the issues here. Other than the fact that they are positive things, which I know really grinds your gears.

He's not necessarily wrong with any of those claims. We have fielded .980 as a team each of the last 2 years. And, no one will doubt that Gausman with his velocity or Nola with his control are special players. It does create excitement to pump up the team, but he's not really wrong to say what he does.

Really would like to see where you are trying to go with this.

Some of you are letting other posts from other sports cloud your thinking. I specifically said this in the prior post.

Well the examples you gave are pretty damn rooted in fact.

-We have been amazing defensively
-Gausman is the one of the best pitchers Mainieri has ever coached

And your hypotheticals are rooted in fact too. I think you're just going out of your way to be a curmudgeon.

The first two weekends of the NCAA Basketball Tournament are phenominal.

I was just counter-pointing the comment that "Mainieri doesn't blow smoke". If I wanted to be ugly about it I would say that LSU's 2013 defense was not the best in college baseball history, they weren't even the best on their side of the Omaha bracket.

Every preseason Mainieri talks very highly of his teams. I have wondered at times if it fed into the fan's "unreasonable expectations".

But as I clearly stated before, it doesn't mean that it's a bad thing that Mainieri is always talking up his teams preseason.

I'm actually really excited about the midweek South Alabama game. They were pretty good last season.

I just don't see any of your examples as excessive "pumping". They're basically facts.

It may seem like he's "pumping" because our program is in goddamn good shape right now. Also, see my previous post about the 2007 team. He sure as shite didn't pump them up all.

i can see the point that he is optimistic at times. i dont think its the majority of the time though. overall he's pretty genuine when he talks about his teams. just my opinion.

eta: for example he's been pretty frank in all interviews about the bullpen and C being the weak spots (or most unproven spots) of the team.

I'd gladly take them over pretty much every one of our current OOC weekend series.
