#LSU baseball player CJ Willis has entered the transfer portal, The Athletic has learned. Willis came to LSU as a highly touted prospect but only started 12 games.

This will be extremely long list before it’s done.

We are currently at 46/35 with that number probably dropping to something like 41/35 after the draft.

Our portal number is middle of the pack for the SEC right now. And I don't expect our turnover to be any worse than anyone else's.

Not surprising unfortunately. Just didn’t seem to click for him in the year and half(ish).

Smart move by him. Needs to be somewhere with guaranteed playing time.

do we expect to have 5 guys taken in the first 5 rounds? This new format has me completely dumbfounded as to what we should expect this year.

Not surprising. He never really got a good opportunity to play. Not saying he was slighted, just never really seemed like the coaches wanted him in the lineup.

Between current players and commits, I would say anywhere from 4 at the least to probably 6 at the most. In the aggregated thread I have the prospect nominal lists ranking by each player and a draft number that indicates how many rounds the draft would have to go for that player to be a risk to be drafted.

Was he just not as good as advertised or were things going on behind the scenes?

His in game skills haven't caught up to his raw skills yet, which isn't abnormal when you talk about a guy that's young for his class and also was injured for large parts of his Sr year of HS and Fr year of college. He's still got a ton of athleticism and raw ability. His best playing days are ahead of him. But with the roster squeeze there likely wouldn't be enough playing time for him to develop here.

He's the kind of player that out of HS might be a better pro prospect than college prospect. In the minors he could have played every day, taken his lumps, and improved over time without regard to how the team was doing.

In college, where the focus is split between win now and development, but very heavily skewed toward win now, a prospect that needs development time may not get the amount of playing time they need to reach their potential.

JUCOs can be great places for raw players with a lot of talent due to the fall season and the lack of restrictions on practice time.

Is there a push for 40 in 2021? Criminal that the season was so quickly canceled in the first place so this is the least the ncaa could do.

That's a bummer, wonder what his role would've been had he come in his freshman season without recovering from major surgery.

I think the coaches association was going to propose removing the cap altogether for next year. I don't think that's going to happen. 40 might be a good compromise number.

One thing that's also happening is that Furman and Bowling Green dropped their programs altogether. That's another 70 potential D1 spots gone. Chicago State might drop theirs by the end of the day. So 105.

There are going to be a ton of guys left without a place to transfer to.

Listened to a d1 podcast the other day, seems like they are hoping to get the restriction loosened up to 40, but nothing concrete yet

Well frick. Really thought he’d be one of those guys that turn the corner their junior year and ball out.
