Has Duplantis named who will wear number 8 during the 2020 baseball year?

I cant think of a subject that I could possibly care less about at this time.
I didn't even know number 8 was a thing, I guess now I'm somewhat curious lol. Sorry for the hyperbole, but it is football time

As much as I don’t give a shite about this right now I would guess it would be Cabrera, Beloso or Doughty.

My guess is it will go to Cabrera by default. The whole number 8 thing used to be about the guy who was not only one of the best players on the team, but who was seen as the emotional leader of the team.
But sometimes you really don't have those kinds of guys who stand out in the emotional leader category, so you just go with seniority. That seemed to be the case with the choice of Duplantis this past year. Really good player, who leads by example, but is quiet as a mouse.
Cabrera is kind of vocal, though I don't know how much he is viewed as a leader. But he is going to be the most experienced member of the lineup, so unless Mainieri is going to break the mold and give it to a freshman, I can't imagine it will be anyone but Cabrera.

I dont think fraley was an outwardly emotional guy either. So im not sure it is meant for an emotional leader. Maybe half the guys who have had it have been that way.
And IMO, duplantis absolutely was the right guy for it

Yes, Fraley was another example of a guy getting the number by default. This isn't my opinion, ths was what Mainieri, himself, said about the number after it started with Mahtook, and then Katz. With Fraley, you didn't really have any other choices, and then the next time it was between Kramer and Cole Freeman, and Kramer didn't want it, so Cole got it. And then it went to Duplantis, again, for seniority reasons with there being no real emotional leader to choose from.
Edit- and of course Bregman came after Katz, which I, for some reason, skipped. You can see that most of these guys are very much the vocal/emotional types. Fraley and Duplantis were outliers.

I don't care about it any more than you do. I'm just answering the question.

I’m wearing it. I have a #8 Bregman jersey.

Speak of the devil...
LSU outfielder Daniel Cabrera will wear jersey No. 8 for the 2020 season, coach Paul Mainieri announced on Wednesday. The No. 8 jersey is given each season to the upperclassman who exemplifies the spirit of LSU Baseball through his leadership and dedication to the program.
The No. 8 tradition was started by outfielder Mikie Mahtook (2009-11) and has since been continued by first baseman Mason Katz (2012-13), shortstop Alex Bregman (2014-15), outfielder Jake Fraley (2016), second baseman Cole Freeman (2017) and outfielder Antoine Duplantis (2018-19).

I'm the OP. After reading some of the above comments, I guess I should be sorry that I can walk & chew gum at the same time, i.e., I can look forward to football & also think about another sport. Sorry if I upset some of you. Glad they announced who will get #8 today.
Have a great life.

no! some folks on this board think you are only allowed to be a fan of 1 sport. And you have to believe that all other sports suck and make sure you shite on them as much as possible.
