Tim Corbin - $1.2M
Jay Johnson - $856K
Brian O’Connor - $765K
Chris Lemonis - $750K
David Pierce - $731K
Tony Vitello - $550K
Elliott Avent - $435K
David Esquer - NA

LINK

I guess I just find that shocking. Baseball is one of the three major sports, and some of the best coaches are still making only 6 figures.

If the reports of a $2mil+ offer to Vitello are true, then not only does Vitello become the highest paid coach in the country, he become the highest paid coach by $900,000 (not including incentives).

Get an up and comer and you pay less. Simple economics.

Try to force an elite coach to leave, pay more than the program will even produce.

Although baseball is one of the 3 major sports on most campuses, there are only a handful of schools who actually make money off of baseball.....hence the lower salaries compared to basketball and football.

Only a handful of programs are even profitable.

I think Corbin is supposed to make a lot more on top of his base salary.

It’s like 2.3 all included.

I cant See a school with a 4K stadium paying a baseball coach 2.5 to make him the highest paid coach in baseball, but that one guy tweeting probably doesn’t know what that number really is.

Baseball is one of the three major professional sports. College baseball is a regional sport and is really only big in the Southeast and Texas.

Michigan, UCLA, Oregon State, and Arizona would all like a word.

Wither way, Vitello is about to reset the market. Either LSU is going to pay him $2M, or Tennessee will.

IF LSU pays TV 2.1M... it will be interesting to see a major, blue blood program pay that... but most will chalk it up to a one-time, unique situation.

If UT pays TV 2.1M... it's going to be a lot more interesting... and probably set off an arms race on coaching salaries.

That’s true, but what is their fanbase like?

LSU almost had more fans than Oregon at the Oregon regional.

It's all about leverage. College baseball doesn't make the money that the two other major sports does, and so it's hard for these coaches to make the case that they need to make a salary that is disproportionate to the money they bring in, even though it's not really the coach's fault that the other sports draw more.

And you also don't see major league teams trying to poach college coaches like you see in other sports.

There other thing is that there doesn't seem to be near as much turnover with the top baseball programs, in terms of coaching changes, as there are in other sports, mainly because of what I said before about college baseball coaches not getting poached by MLB. When big jobs open up, that's when you see agents start leveraging schools to pay up to keep their coaches from leaving, and it inflates salaries in the coaching "market". There is so much more stability in college baseball that we don't really see much inflation.

Just my two nickels.

I think college baseball is about to take off. The new NIL rules will make it even more appealing for high draft picks to do a few years in college instead of minors. It was already becoming a trend before this with the huge disparity in lifestyles between college and minor leaguers.

A school like LSU that actually makes money off of baseball cant afford to not go after a big name. Other schools are smart to try an up and comer for cheaper, but LSU has to hire a proven winner. As one of the few schools that can afford to poach a good baseball coach LSU better take advantage of that.

Quadruple salary, w/all risk on LSU, and bags begging to be packed (Woodward's)

Double salary w/potential to quadruple salary (w/some facility and other key resource commitments) for results, win-win, bags begging to be packed (the Coach's)

Make it happen (latter)

Guessing you didn’t tune into the Oregon regional where the west coast team couldn’t fill their 4000 seat stadium.
