Base running gloves?
Posted by Chipand2Putts on 3/20/15 at 10:11 pm22
Why do some of our batters change from batting gloves to base running gloves? Does this serve a purpose? Or is it just cuz they think it looks cool?

Don't want to mess up the ones you hit with.

running gloves are more aerodynamic and allows them to run faster...

keeps their wrist straight when they slide head first
also some switch cause the batting gloves will rip if they drag their hands

They want to keep their hitting gloves clean, but they also want to keep their hands clean while on the bases. That is why they use different gloves.

I think it is so the umpires can see their hands reach the bag when sliding head first into the base.

Don't steal home without it.

Before they had the stronger running specific gloves, batters would go through a lot of batting gloves quickly. The batting gloves are much thinner to allow a better feel on the bat, but they get eaten up by the hard clay on the infield while sliding. The Running glove solves this by having a much tougher and thicker pad on the gloves so that they don't get worn down so quickly by the hard clay while sliding, plus adding an extra layer of padding for protection.

I think it's dumb, but if "changing gloves" makes them think it makes that much of a difference, more power to them.

It only took 14 responses to get it right. Well done Tiger Rant!!!

Some of the players use a lot of pine tar on the handle of the bat and change gloves when they reach base because of this.
