Assuming the 2020 season is cancelled, who returns in 2021?

I know we're trying hard to ignore the probability of shutting this season down.

But what happens if they do pull the plug? My guess is, we've seen the last of Chase, and probably Marshall too. In fact, I'd say that anyone with a good chance of being drafted, after watching a whole season vanish, will choose to cash in rather than play college again.
I see that nationally too, with Lawrence leaving Clemson, etc.

I'll assume Brennan (no draft prospect yet), Stingley, ... who else would be back in 2021?

I get that you're wanting there to be a season. So do I.

There's at least a possibility it will be cancelled. La and other states are backtracking right now, not opening up further.

So- in the event we get a worst-case-scenario, who do you see returning in 2021?

I can't see anyone with draft prospects coming back. This (loss of) current season would be a big factor, and players would try to get signed as fast as possible. Because if college ball goes down, the pros might be next, and then the money's gone. Very unlikely, but no longer impossible.

If the season doesn’t happen, the NCAA might as well add an extra year’s worth of scholarships coaches can give out in 2021, because everyone who can leave to the NFL is gone, all the way down to UDFA grades.

Why would they stay and risk there not being a 2021 season? What will be different?

Even if it is, it's premature to speculate while the eligibility situation is determined. It's premature to speculate on that while the pending season situation is unresolved.

I bet Marshall returns. He would not go in the first round based on last year. If he stays I think he has a great chance to go in the middle of round 1.

I went back and forth on him.

I get exactly what you're saying, but before the injury he was putting up numbers comparable to Chase and Jefferson; and he's got the best size of the 3 (makes the best redzone target).

His numbers are lower because he had that injury mid-season, but he DID come back, and made a big impact late in the year and postseason. And of note, that's with Chase and Jefferson having established themselves as the primary WR targets, and Moss getting more looks at TE.

TL DR; he's shown the potential, and he came back and showed he was healthy and productive when targeted.

I think if he plays a full college season he will be on All American lists, and put up gaudy numbers, but I don't think he's got much more to prove. Maybe show his hands improved next season, that's about it.

If we played a regular season with both Chase and Marshall, and Marshall cleans up those occasional drops (he made, what, 3 or so on big plays?), he might actually pass Chase as a prospect. They're close to same ability, but Marshall's bigger.
