LSU will NEVER get the deserved respect from the National media that they have earned on the field and on the court. It's just the way it is and it will never change.

For example:

Skip Bertman won 5 Championships in 10 years and should be regarded as a legend in college sports. Is he? Not as far as I can see. Dude should be a household name.

So what is my point? My point is frick the national media. frick em all.

College baseball isn't a top revenue sport. Skip is easily respected as one of the greats of his profession.

I agree with the local market narrative you present, but it doesn't fit here IMO. LSU baseball is a national brand... for those that care about NCAA baseball.

LSU football is a national brand, ranked #1 multiple times in last 15 years. And a huge money windfall. Basketball is also a huge money maker that LSU hasn't capitalized. That's LSU's fault, not the national media IMO.

LSU has had iconic players in basketball, but not necessarily the success. Since 1981, 3 Final Fours, no championship games, etc. We're not a blue blood basketball program.

That's my point. Skip is "respected"...really, 5 rings in 10 years, he is one of the greatest coaches ever. In all sports. EVER!!! Its a legitimate playoff where you really are proven to be the best. He is a legend. He is barely known across the US.
Point is and remains fuk em all!!! Geaux Tigers!!!

Do you know who Rod Dedeaux is?

He isn't really known across the US either.

Exactly.

Unless you have some attention to that sport or place, you're not going to have that knowledge.

TBH, I could name just a handful of NHL coaches or players as example. It's more perspective and audience than slight IMO.

I don't think the national media has an agenda against LSU. If they do, baseball would be the worst example.

College baseball is a regional sport. Not many people outside of the southeast and parts of the west coast care about college baseball. The northeast and Midwest are MLB fans. In the past lost MLB players didn’t come from colleges. That is changing and ESPN’s coverage of baseball is drawing more people to the sport.

Do you know who Jerry York is? That’s the all time winningest college hockey coach and has won 4 national championships since 2001. We don’t car le about him because it’s college hockey but in the northeast they treat college hockey like we treat college baseball.

Yep. I agree with OP with regard to Bertman being one of the greatest college baseball coaches of all time if not THE greatest. But using him as an example to show lack of national respect for LSU is just flat stupid.

Hey OP, outside of a handful of areas of the country nobody gives a fat baby frick about college baseball.

Our media market potential is just too small. It’s just the way it is. For national coverage on TV and I publications, it’s all about what story and team will sell the most media placement. $$$$. And LSU winning is pretty much a local thing. And very few people care about college baseball. Honestly I love it, and I’m thankful for the SEC Network and WATCHESPN!!!

Exactly, college baseball is not respected nationally but relatively speaking Skip is as highly regarded a coach as there is.

LSU is very respected and a national brand in football and baseball.

LSU baseball is one of the most storied programs in history. Historical rankings are hard to figure. Is it total national and conference titles? total wins? Yes it is all of that but it goes beyond that. ESPN should do a "30 for 30" just on the impact that Skip Bertman and LSU had on the modern game. They transformed the game and showed that college baseball could be successful and profitable. They designed the blue print for most every success modern program.

Most people will debate if LSU is a true blue blood in college football. But when you consider that they are at the edge of top 10 all time I would call them a blue blood. Not Alabama, Notre Dame level but definitely respected in all circles.

We actually do have a lot of national respect and national recognition. But if we want more NATIONAL respect and attention, we have to win NATIONAL Championships..

baseball is irrelevant nationally. Very few people care.

As for football, we get a ton of respect.

Basketball - well, we've stunk in recent years and aren't a perennial power and don't deserve national respect, until we earn it.

Just keep winning - that's all that matters. Personally, I don't care at all what some media pundit thinks.

I don’t care what the national media says.
Win and let things work themselves out. No media coverage can change winning in either direction.

college baseball is not as big of a deal across the nation as it is to us, prior to Skip, it wasn't a big deal at LSU, usually more players and coaches at the games than fans, and those that were there were usually families or girlfriends, I played baseball at LSU just prior to the Skip era and you would think there was no baseball before he got to LSU, it's like those of us part of the baseball program pre-Skip never existed bottom line is college baseball is not as big of a deal to everyone else as we think it is

LSU basketball was pretty highly respected back with Dale went on his run of consecutive NCAA tournies and the success he had in March.
