As a coach for 35 years, I don't complain, but this coaching is inexcusable

It’s really frustrating to know this team is mostly being coached by a bunch of ok players from the program within the last 10 years.

I can count on less than one hand how many of my runners have been picked off at 3rd... it's called practice!

It really is. These are not just once in a while mistakes. Although when’s the last time you saw a guy miss a bag? Rare, but you add it to the idiocy of that pick off just now and some other gaffes and the sum shows poor poor fundamental baseball.

They are absolutely poorly coached. Period.

Talent is keeping them in these games, but they have so much more potential to be great. There is no reason for that error.. they should practice base running until it becomes second nature if needed. I just can't see any other team at this level making such a ridiculous mistake time and time again.

You really think that the player was told by the coach to get that for off base?

It was a terrible judgement by the player, not the coach.

To be fair the mistakes made are taught when you get to the level of baseball when first take leads. It was idiotic, any college baseball should know better.

It’s not practice. It’s your 3rd base coach saying between every pitch to stay close to the bag and don’t get picked off in that situation. Especially to a freshman.

As a coach, I’m in his ear before each pitch telling him not to get picked off. On the ther hand, as a D1 baseball player, you can’t get picked off

Base running errors may have cost LSU both games. We can't control what we should be able to control. Blame this stale staff.

We should be at bare minimum down 1. Probably should be tied right now. That inning had the look of a really good one and got is a measly 1 run. LSU doesn’t deserve to win.

I’ve been complaining about Mainieri's base running the entire time he’s been here. He thinks he’s aggressive, but his team’s are out of control on the bases and kill big innings all the time.

But that’s just baseball.

The kids need to execute.

All you can do is assemble a roster and hope they play well.

Arm soreness.

Etc.

Etc.

Yes it's both practice to work situations like this and also what you said.
