Interesting, brief read on what he accomplished at UW including financials, hiring and championships won.

Was very hands on with football.

I'm sure reflective articles about his time at A&M are soon to follow.

Looks like he sold naming rights while at Washington. I’d like to ask him if he considers that an option at LSU or if it was isolated bc of how bad the Washington financials were. Was he the AD when the aggies named their baseball field blue bell park?

That was after he left. Id also imagine that had to do with football not really being a big deal like it is in the south and some of the other top programs around the country. They can't/don't generate nearly the profit we do (50% less) so why not do what you can to make some extra money if they need it? I walked and biked around the campus and athletic facilities in August with my wife while we were on campus and they were very nice. That all being said that would never fly at a major SEC program and I think he knows that.

Woodward had a list of standard candidates. There was Jim Mora Jr., a Washington alumnus who had gone 19–8 in his first two seasons at UCLA. There was Justin Wilcox, an up-and-comer who had served as Washington’s defensive coordinator under Sarkisian. But as Woodward considered these names, he got a call from Bennett Speyer, who represented Chris Petersen. Petersen had decided the timing was right to leave Boise State, and Washington fit what he sought in a Power 5 job.

Woodward’s response: “WHAT?” His next thought? “Let’s get it done,” Woodward says. “It literally went down that fast.”

I don’t think he lured CP. lol.

He did close on him though. CP said he met with USC the year prior and the fit wasn’t there. His ideals and theirs didn’t mesh.

When he met with Woodward and the UW folks he said he felt at home. Goes to show that Woodward can “close the sale” so to speak.

Blue Bell paid for their renovations a while back. That’s how they got their name on it.
don’t remember when, but definitely before Woodward. Hell might be close to 10 years ago now.

Not a hard deal to close when the candidate (or his agent) calls you and says he wants the job! It was known that UW was about the only school Petterson would consider...reasonable salary, competitive on the field, great school academically, and, most importantly, in the NW.

Yeah this shite doesn't bother me anymore. Most of these new stadium are named now because someone else is footing the bill.
