Yes, I know we’re moving on to OM, but there’s been a lot of chatter about Bama’s chances to make the playoff. This is a great article breaking it down. Searched and didn’t see it posted yet.

Why the Selection Committee Can’t Make a Case for Alabama

I've been saying it for months. All anyone has to do is look at the decisions the committee has made so far. Like their literal choices in reality, not guesswork or speculation. Only 2 teams out of 20 have ever made the playoffs without winning their conference, and both times it was because there were multiple P5 conference champs with 2 losses. A non-champ has never made the playoffs over a champ with less than 2 losses.

If all other conferences hold serve like they should bama has zero chance to make the playoffs.

We should just win and let the rest take care of itself. In 2021, if LSU is not undefeated, we will be in a very similar position. Our out of conference schedule is not good. Unless UCLA make dramatic improvements, it looks pretty week. The only advantage we have vs Alabama's schedule is the fact that our cross conference rival is Florida.

Completely agree but it’s way too damn early for this. I’d bet just about anything the other teams mentioned here aren’t all going to go unblemished.

If the top three handle business and Oregon or OU end up conference champs with one loss they’re absolutely getting the 4th spot. The committee would love to get 4 teams with elite QBs in from different regions in the country.

I think Bama would be an easier semi draw than Clemson or Ohio State.

The article makes one huge omission: Utah

quote:

Now, [Bama's] best-case and realistic scenario overall is for LSU to win the SEC, Ohio State to win the Big Ten and for Oregon, Oklahoma and Minnesota to lose in the next few weeks. (We're not going to consider Clemson losing as a reasonable possibility.)

They are forgetting that Oregon and Utah are almost interchangeable, and they will play each other in the Pac-12 Championship Game. So, one of them will have a marquis win at year-end and stand at 12-1, barring they don't trip up beforehand.

I don't see how Bama gets in if either Oregon or Utah finish 12-1.

I also don't see how Bama gets in of OU wins out. Heck, maybe even if Baylor wins out. Big-12 champ Baylor at 13-0 >>> Bama at 11-1 and no conf title.

Alabama is going to get in. LSU will beat them. Again.

I agree. It looks like OU will have to beat Baylor twice, and Oregon will have to beat Utah. If it comes down to 12-1 Oregon or 12-1 OU for the 4th spot, my money is on Oregon because their loss is better than OU's, they would've won 12 straight games, and the PAC XII has been left out of the playoffs for the past 2 years. You can bet they will lobby hard for the last slot.

We need to win out and let the rest sort itself out.

Any team placing third in their conference shouldn’t even be in the conversation. Period.

The "Committee" is a front for a TV Billion dollar marketing deal. If they put Bama in over any other 1-loss conference champ, the other Power-5 conferences will be finding new management for the next TV deal.

They're gone if Bama is in. TITTB

Their insistence of keeping Tennessee on the schedule will do them in. Love it.

The CFB Committee will do what ESPN tells them to do.

We all know what ESPN will want. They will backdoor Bama in there if they can and they will.

There's a reason ESPN quit using the phrase "Every game counts".

It all depends on what we, Ga, UT, OR, OSU , OK, Baylor, Mn, do. Can’t make predictions yet.

And those will be the battle lines. Non-SEC Power-5 conferences vs ESPN. There are many other networks who want college football. Non-SEC conferences have had all they can take of Bama's automatic bid.

SEC teams are tired of it too.

I mean, what is the point of beating them in the regular season if they get a pass?

If you are a team in the SECW, the CFP PC has basically told you that if you want to make it, you have to beat them, then win the SECCG for a right to a rematch.

It doesn't hurt to have the head of the selection representing his school.
