What were your feelings of Ed Orgeron going on Fox News?

I'm not saying individuals can't express support for a candidate or an issue.

But putting patches on jerseys or helmets, or words on a field or basketball court (like the NBA) is far different.

It's social/political speech being promoted by a university, team, or league.

And that's far, far different.

I’m still waiting for an example of systematic racism and inequality in this country. Are their racists people in this country? Yes. Racists are at all corners of the earth. But to say that the USA is systematically racist is the dumbest shite I’ve ever heard. And it’s annoying seeing messages like that everywhere you turn.

this is correct. There was systemic racism before the mid 1960's, but there's virtually none now. And rational people know this.

It's funny, because the incidents that caused all the turmoil actually show that there NOT systemic racism: George Floyd in Minnesota, the guy in Atlanta, Jacob Blake in Wisconsin.

These incidents (each one a person resisting arrest) were RANDOM - in different parts of the country. That actually PROVES there's nothing "systemic" about it. THey were individual incidents.

And by the way, in Atlanta, the mayor and police chief are black. So if any "systemic racism" exists in ATL (it doesn't) then it's their fault, not some mysterious group of klan members running the cities.

And Atlanta has had African-American mayors since 1974. And I'd guess most police chiefs since then have also been African-American. So who's responsible?

I’ll help translate it: cut them a check.

It’s all about seeking money and power, but disguised under SJ oppression bullshite to guilt the useful idiots.

Where does it end? Or does it ever end? And who gets to decide what messages are "appropriate" and which aren't? Can we put an "abortion is wrong" slogan on a football field? What about "build the wall"? Or "balance the budget"?
That's a football field full of strawmen.

Equality is hardly a slipper slope. It's one of the tenets of the Declaration of Independence.

you're completely missing my point.

Once a league or school puts a social message on a field, the genie is out of the bottle. And then who gets to decide the message. And as we all know, it's a small group of university or league administrations who have already shown they'll bow to pressure, and that certainly won't stop.

The door is now open, and I fear for the next round of social messages forced upon all of us fans who just want to watch a damn game.

You may be fine with being subjected to social/political messages at an entertainment event, but I'm not. When I go to a concert, I don't want the singer to utter a peep about politics or social issues - even if I agree with them. Just sing. That's what I paid to hear.

Do social activism on their own time.

Equality.

It's not just a damn, good word.

It's not just a noble aspiration.

It's a gateway slogan.

ok, it's just a word.

So is Jesus.

So is Border Enforcement (yes, I realize it's two words).

So is Law and Order.

So is Pro-Life.

Are these allowed on the field too?

Don't you get my point?

Sign me up for some of that change. It's worked so very well elsewhere.

wait, didn't we have a black guy as president for 8 years? And black mayors all over the country. Hell, in Atlanta, where I live, they've had black mayors since 1974.

Black mayors and black police chiefs preside over the vast majority of the police districts that suffer from "institutional racism". You can't make this stuff up.

To everyone attacking the OP: I don't think he was arguing the merits of the "movement". I think he was arguing its place in football or sports in general.

Are you saying Jim Crow laws were not systemic racism?

How about the war on drugs? It’s on record that it was designed to target black people and hippies ie. Nixon’s opposition

I noticed Arkansas had a social justice word on their field right below their field goal post Saturday, which is the first I've seen this year. I'm not a racist by any means, but I am tired of seeing this crap all over the place.

I’m talking about present day obviously. Not laws that were in effect half a century ago. The entire world was pretty much systematically racist at one point if you look far back enough in history. And the war on drugs has involved just about every race. White, black, Hispanic, asian, all of us. You even said it yourself Nixon used it against hippies as well as blacks. The point is there is nothing holding anyone, of any race, back from achieving what they want in today’s society, in America.
