“This was the first time in our lives the girls especially were pretty vocal about wanting to stay and be, and I appreciate that,” Aranda said.

“I have so much respect for Coach O, and I mean that in the way he handles the team,” he said. “The team loves him.”

Let's hope it translate to the field. The team has chance to be really good and do something special if the offense can come together. If not, it's probably a repeat of last year.

Not according to Alleva. Pretty sure he said he won't hire a coach without previous head coaching experience.

Alleva and his two immediate predecessors have said the same thing. That requirement comes from above the AD's head and has been in place since the Archer firing.

In an interview last year, he said his daughters really enjoyed all the outdoor opportunities.....fishing, etc...

We need to make sure there is a charter on standby every weekend!

Good thing he hired the coach with about the worst Power 5 head coaching experience you could possibly have.

More to his quote here:

quote:

I remember not wanting to leave, myself. There's so much respect I have for Coach O, and I mean that in the way that he handles the team; the team loves him. As a coach when you spend so much time doing football, you want to come to work, and you want to enjoy that experience. You want to be around people that are good people that can laugh at things and cut loose when it's time to cut loose and work when it's time to work. And I think O has assembled a group that is very much that way. I appreciate that. The ability to have Bill come on board, I appreciate Bill and what he's done ... when you're at a spot where you can do what you want to do on defense and you've got a great relationship with the head coach and like the people that you work with -- you appreciate the sacrifices everyone is putting in, and it's mututal, and the kids are on board working hard -- you don't want to leave that.

I am Sure both those things were factors.

We also paid him 2.5 million dollars.

If he didn’t say 2.5 million reasons to stay he’s already spinning.

If he really stayed because he respected O so much or his kids love it here why did he need a $800k raise?

Instead, he picks a head coach with one of the worst records. Nice logic, Alleva.

Yes 2.5 million dollars probably had 99% to do with him staying and there is nothing wrong with that. He can't go anywhere in college or pro and make that as a coordinator.

Wanna bet that he couldn't get $2.5 million somewhere else?

One of the worst head coaching resumes imaginable and no coordinator experience, much less successful coordinator experience?

Or no head coaching resume, but an elite coordinator at several stops?

I think I know which I'd rather.

Not many places, even in NFL, that pay coordinators that. I'm sure A&M would've matched as well. They're rich AF and desperate for defense.

He could've gotten a head coaching gig probably for that though.

You see a lot of college coordinators out there making 2 mill?

Can you list me 1 other one?

Also can anyone tell me if there are any NFL coordinators making over 2.5 Million?

Make A&M offered 2.5, but that’s 2.5 for a lateral move. To walk away from a top 15 defense and try and rebuild something.
