Can the JUGS machine be modified to throw slippery leather 200# dummies at our defensive players?

Is this the worst defense LSU has had

Is Brent Venables better? Because he let A&M shred his defense last year.

Divinity did not impress me and that has to be the worst game I’ve ever seen Delpit have. I think bad enough to hurt his stock a bit. We played a scheme and style that did not seem to match what we normally do. Dbs have to get better at guarding a slant and competing for the ball instead of PI.

Yea Georgia’s defense sucked giving up 45 to OU and 28 to the same Texas team....

The offense we played was very fricking good and very well coached.

Aranda apparently likes to play bend don’t break and contain against a mobile QB. I think Ehlinger surprised them with quality throws. But the contain strategy gave him so much time.

Tua carved us up easily last year with this defensive mindset. We made Mond look like an All AMERICAN with this mind set. Anyway. Florida will be tough for different reasons

Bama and Tua are going to score a lot. We will have to outscore them. Maybe we have the team to do it. Mond is going to Challenge us similar to last year.

We must still be average on the DLine. We did not win one on one matchups. And the left tackle handled Chaisson. They did hold a good bit. But so,willBama.

If they give us the Stingley interception, UT likely goes scoreless in the first half

Bama is going to be just as tough, if not tougher than UT. Definitely have to get better pass rush as the season progresses

We just had a bad game against a top 10 team with a great offense and quarterback. You don’t give up 100 yards to the triple option and after one bad game on defense you instantly suck. Wow

When your offense is so explosive that your time of possession is 26 minutes vs Texas at 34 minutes, it will take a toll on your defense. They were obviously gassed because our secondary was lights out so the only way Texas could move the ball is on the ground/short passes 3-4 yards at a time. I can’t believe I’m saying this but our offense was scoring too fast haha

I thought I had seen stupidity in all its awful glory on the Rant before last night, but several of y'all have taken it to a new level. I had to SEARCH for positive posts after a signature win on the road against a top-10 team in a hostile environment in temps that will be one of the hottest games played all year. The Tigers finally showcased a modern offense with brilliant QB play, and all most posters wanted to do was bash the D, like the OP in this thread. Unreal.

Dude, you don't win very often giving up well over 500 yards on defense. They have to get better.

Despite what you think, I enjoyed the win just as much as you.

This is as honest as I can make it. I am not trying to trash Aranda and like him as a coach. The fact remains we have not had the over acheiving shut down defenses that many of us thought were coming with Dave. But have we had good strong defenses that won us games. For sure.

In the Texas game we had some problems. Tackling being the main one. More missed tackles in that game than I can remember for awhile. I think this is a trend we have seen coming on the last couple of years. Don't know who you blame it on. Individuals not working hard enough on their technique. Coaches not emphasizing it enough? In the old days it seemed we had athletes that were so much better and bigger that all we had to do was knock them down. Not anymore. Everyone has players that spend half the year in a weight room getting stronger.

Second thing was the coverage on some of those long throws by Texas. The coverge was almost but just not good enough. We were in position to make plays and just didn't make them. I am sure Aranda and Coach O will have them working to correct this stuff and we still may wind up with a great shut down defense.

Were you alive when Mett/Odell/Landry and Hill was giving SEC defenses fits while the Chavis defense would piss the game away? You must have forgotten 4th and Chavis

The D had issues, but they are incredibly talented and Aranda will get this fixed. Sometimes it's actually a good thing to get humbled. I expect them to come back hungry and focused.

let's hope.....
Bo Pelini also did not have a 2nd version and no adjustment once the other teams figured him out.

Time will tell. He certainly can not continue to allow good QBs to have their way. PRESSURE is needed. Too much talent.

Also did a decent job of shutting them down in the first half.

We must have watched a different game because I saw a team that should have had us down 21-3. At no time did we ever slow down their running game, which kept our defense on the field and made Ehlinger lethal. Bottom line they exerted their will on us all night. Not going to beat top SEC teams if that continues.

Its true that our defense was on the field too much. We scored quickly most of the night, defense right back on the field. They had long drives, we were gassed and cramping. The one thing I don’t understand is that we rushed 4 almost the entire game and they beat us constantly. The few times we rushed 5 or blitzed, we caused them serious problems. I don’t know why we didn’t be more aggressive getting after their QB.
