As of he end of fall ball, Storz was in a cast and sling following elbow surgery during late fall. I can't see him being 100% for spring practice.
As for Hilliard and Labas, both had arm soreness during fall ball and I haven't heard what the cause was. Perhaps someone else can report more info on them. We may hear more when spring semester begins.

I figures Storz was out. I was hoping they could figure out what was nagging Hilliard and Labas before the end of fall ball.

Without those three we won’t be nearly as deep.

Mainieri’s job is to win games. Regardless, his highest pitch count all season was 95 and he only reached 90 pitches three times the entire season. How do you figure Mainieri overthrew him? Mainieri, if you’ve paid attention, is overly cautious of pitch counts, many times to his own detriment.

Because whatikniwsofar knows jack shite but wants to sound like an informed observer. Classic case of wanting to sound like a big shot.

Storz
Oct article
quote:

Highly-touted but rarely seen LSU pitcher Nick Storz underwent surgery on the lat muscle underneath his throwing shoulder last week and could miss the entire 2019 season. Paul Mainieri said LSU will know more about his potential return in a few weeks.

quote:

Pitcher Caleb Gilbert had shoulder surgery this summer and will miss the fall. Matthew Beck was shut down for all of fall, as well.

quote:

Then, the big mysteries are pitchers Ma'Khail Hilliard and A.J. Labas, who both made the weekend rotation as freshmen. Mainieri said LSU still can't find anything structurally wrong with either, but both have been having soreness since May and have not returned.

I don’t remember if there have been any official updates since October

I’d really like to know about Hilliard & Beck

I dont think PM usually overthrows pitchers, but he absolutely threw hilliard on like 4 days rest in an almost meaningless game against florida in the sec tourney, stupid decision.

A few weeks ago, PM gave good news on Hilliard. No pain and has resumed throwing. No news on Labas. Storz not so good news. Pretty complicated surgery that takes a long time to heal. If he makes it back for 2019, it'll likely be April.

Also, Josh Smith doing great. Walker does not quite have control back like he did in prime, but that is expected to return with reps.

I actually met Storz at Fred's the other night. Seems like a good guy, hopefully he's 100% soon.

I’m assuming you’re talking about his high school coach because CPM babies the shite out of him.

What is the deal with LSU pitchers and arm injuries? Is it the way PM is using them or they are training these days? I don't every remember in all of Skip's years anywhere near this many arm injuries.

I don't know what the issue is w/ any specific LSU pitcher's arm injury. But as a former Little League and travel ball coach I can tell you that many kids are overpitched and asked to throw pitches they should never throw at a young age. Many HS coaches are only marginally better. By the time they get to college, some of these kids are destined to have arm problems.

They may be ready for the bowl game if the situation breaks favourably.

Labas and Storz were both dealing with injuries when they got to campus.

Latz was the same way a few years ago.

He is talking about pitching him without adequate rest, not pitch counts.

Josh is absolutely right here. Hilliard was already tiring towards the end of the season. He got thrown on short rest against Auburn that Friday night against Mize, and then they threw him on short rest against Florida in the SEC Tourney that following Wednesday (a pretty pointless game).
