James Carviile had an interesting comment once about people who say "it's just a game". He said (paraphrasing), they have no idea of what they're talking about. He went on to say the experience transends the game. It's inbred in our cultural fabric. I post this because win or lose, you have to respect LSU fans who support the team no matter what. No matter the coach, players, or outcome, they are LSU fans because of so many things that transend just the game. Now...go kick some Gator arse Tigers!!!

The only time that I buy into the "it's just a game" philosophy is for pee wee football.

Once you hit high school, games start to have meaning, outside the game itself. Rivalries between schools involve people that don't even play on the teams and bragging rights are at stake for the entire year.

This is inflated x10000 at the college level, where people gather by the tens of thousands in support for their school every weekend.

In the NFL, of course, it is more than a game, it is a career for the players, as well as the entire team's organization. Business owners make money off of the area team's success.

College and NFL teams stimulate the economy of their surrounding area, so it's hard to call it "just a game" beyond a certain point.

Dude loves his Tigers. Don't have to respect his politics, but the man loves his Tigers and college football.

The team isnt lighting it on fire right now, but it is not hard to pull for a top 5 undefeated team!

I've gotten a lot better about accepting the outcome, win or lose, and moving on than I used to be. Whatever happens today, I'll be okay by tomorrow morning.

ETA: If this stuff makes you miserable, you need a new hobby. A lot of so called fans should think about that.

Yeah. LSU football is just a game in the same way that sex with an ultra hot chick is just another bodily function.

If you have any level of perspective on life it is just a game. An important game no doubt. But a game nonetheless.

If you're a fan, it's just a game...your life should be completely unaffected by the outcome, regardless of how passionate you are about your team.

This. James Carville and I have probably never once agreed on anything in the realm of politics, but he's great for LSU, puts his money/power where is mouth is (and that's alot of mouth), and I find the guy completely entertaining.

I've had the pleasure of enjoying a game with him. He's in my top (5) folks of all time as far as "who would you like to hang out with/watch the LSU game".

I know for a fact that I take LSU football waaaaaaaaay too seriously. My state of mind and happiness should not hinge on what several dozen 18-22 year-old young men do on a patch of grass 12-14 times in the fall.

But they do - and that speaks volumes about what this shared experience means to all of us.

i try to take this philosophy because I don't one game ruining my entire day or week or anything like that. But it is very difficult to view a sport like this, because me being a die hard sports fan as I am its difficult to say that a game is just a game. But for me when I really think about it that all it is. Fun to watch great when your team wins and everything but I shouldn't let it rule my emotions outside of the game.

btw I'm with LSU through think and thin, in all major sports. I was supporting LSU baseball when they didn't make the post season. I've been supporting basketball even though they suck.

Now lets have some blacked gator for a mid afternoon snack.
