Another bad week for college football watching

This September was about as bad as I can remember for watching college football. The first week of October is not much better. Other than Auburn at Florida, there is not one other game that holds much interest for me. Georgia and Tennessee could have been a good game but for the fact Tennessee's program is a dumpster fire.
LSU plays its fifth game of the season, and its fourth rent a win team. The LSU Texas game has far and away been the best college game of the season. Here we are in October and Alabama has yet to play anyone worth watching.
There is but one solution to this. There has to be a profound change in the way college teams are ranked. Teams have to be given incentives to play better teams. A close loss to a good team needs to count more than a win over a rent a win team. Teams who load their schedule with easy teams should be dinged in the polls for it, not rewarded.
Each week this year so far, there have been no more than two or three games on Saturday worth watching. I'll go to the game Saturday because I bought season tickets, but I do not much care about the game. How much more fun would it be if we were playing Ohio State or even USC?
The problem with the system is that you get penalized with a tough loss to a good team and at the end voters focus more on how many wins and losses a team has and less about who they played. If it turns out Texas A&M is really not that good, Clemson will make the playoffs without playing one good team.
I just can not remember a year wit less interesting games overall than this year, going into the sixth weekend of college ball. There is no perfect solution, I get that. Just going to a ten game SEC schedule would help.

It has been a bad september in the SEC for a few reasons. Obviously the biggest games are the Big 6 games.
Usually the Big 6 September games are LSU/Auburn and Florida/Tennessee.
Tennessee obviously is non competitive this year and LSU/Auburn is being played in late October. On top of that because there's one extra week to the season and not an extra game on everyone's schedules, everything is just slightly more thinned out. On top of that we haven't had any of the other 8 members of our conference rise up to a competitive level this year so we didn't get any big games from that front. Just a bad recipe for a fun September. But thankfully UGA/ND and UT/LSU were great games. Oh and Duke/Alabama. ha.

Winning will always mean more. End of the day you gotta play your conference schedule which usually happend Oct-November.
Also you can't call Vandy a rent-a-win. Rent-a-win means those cupcake teams we pay to come to Tiger Stadium. Vandy is a conference opponent.

You typed all that crap for what?

This is what happens when you have
1. 8 game conference schedules
2. 2 bye weeks
The ACC and SEC need to get their shite together and go to a 9 game conference schedule. Or stop scheduling FCS teams

Maybe you could just watch the Aub-Fla game and then do something else with your saturday

Part of it is the multiple bye weeks as well.
The games are more spread out since every team gets two weeks off.
I agree, until the committee rewards a playoff team that might have one or two losses but a harder schedule the same scheduling trends will continue.
LSU with one loss would have just as much of an arguments as an undefeated Clemson
A two loss SEC team should be in over a one loss Pac12 team.
At end of the day they will take the conference champs.

and you think the other conferences will upgrade their schedules as well ??
Until the HUMANS stop "picking" their teams for the playoffs it is a NO. no way to give the NDs of the world additional advantage.

Utah State isn't a powerhouse - but they are on the verge of being a Top 25 team with a Top 10 QB.
After that:
Auburn-Florida
Michigan State-OSU
Michigan-Iowa
Cal-Oregon
Washington-Stanford
Pretty solid slate imo.

Bruh we did this before and everyone fricking complained about it every single week of every single season except for the eventual champion.

we have to have a playoff system where conference champs get a bid to the playoffs. otherwise there is no point in scheduling tough out of conference games. it's just not going to happen.
there are always entrenched interests to keep the status quo up, usually making a lot of money, so change is very, very hard.

shite man. LSU-Utah St followed by Auburn-Florida gets me from noon to 7pm, and I’ll be righteously buzzed by then. It’s Tennessee’s fault we don’t have a great nightcap but there are a couple of decent games at night. Agree with you it wasn’t a great September but I can certainly live with this weekend’s slate.

Maybe you should quit focusing so much on the AP rankings on the scoreboard. I bet you didn't watch A&M-Ark or Clemson-UNC last week? I watched both and both were very good although neither went the way I was pulling for.
Iowa-Mich is a good matchup between ranked teams. Ohio St-Mich St is a potential upset game. Oregon-Cal could be a good one.
Live a little.

Big 10 and Pac 12 already play a 9 game conference schedule. Big 12 does as well, for obvious reasons.
