Yep, just had better talent on USC, especially the bigs on the interior

Reese has to develop a shot from the junction area. She shoots free throws pretty good and uses a flat trajectory. When she shoots during action she changes the arc of her shot for no reason. She does not have the body to gang with elite bigs.

Actually I disagree with this. She is plenty big (6'3) and strong.

She needs to develop better footwork/moves around the rim. Most of of the time she is able to 'out muscle' opposing teams but when you face another team with elite bigs you need to be able to do more than just outmuscle your way to the basket.

Even bigger, she needs to develop a midrange jump shot. Its open to her every single game and if she hits those, she will have easier looks to the rim. SC just sagged off her

The other interior player (#5 I think) for us actually showed some nice moves inside. Her skill level seemed superior to Reese with higher level defenders.

She doubled in points. it was rebounds she fell short on.

Sa'Myah Smith?

She's a freshmen but yeah she was by far LSU's best looking player today next to Morris. Excited about her. Just needs another year in the weight room but she did quite well for her size against SC

Tigers could not beat that team in many, many tries....

I hope somebody knocks them out of the tourney, cause we do not want to play them!

As good as she is , definitely needs to develop a midrange game .
Almost all of her baskets are layups or put backs.

Hear what you guys are saying about Reese and her mid range game. The thing is, she HAS a miderange game. But for some reason she won't use it. She forced a lot of drives today when they gave her open jump shots. In fact, she's done this in a number of games but, is just good enough to overcome it against lesser defenders. I'm sure Kim is going to point this out to her.

She actually hit a bit of mid range jump shots at Maryland but haven't seen it at LSU really. I think the only game where she has truly used it and knocked them down was the Tulane game in December.

If she can knock down some mid range shots its going to be much easier to drive to the basket.

Help is on the way. Del Rosario is 6'5" and the top center in the 2023 class. And South Carolina should be losing a ton of production. (Unless they're coming back again because of covid eligibility)

Boston and Cooke are headed to WNBA. Unfortunately the 6'7 Amazonian has a couple years left.

Valant effort by the Lady Tigers but size & shooting talent couldn't match with the Gamecocks.
Boston isn't head over heals better than Angel Reese, she just has lots of talent around her.

As mentioned in a dedicated thread about this, Reese's shot around the rim sucks, as its a alligator armed shot from the hip shot. Whatever happened to a true jump shot extending the arms upwards and releasing from the high point?

I don't find that she out muscles anyone, she's rather slender and got pushed around a lot yesterday. She is just normally faced with less physical opposition, where she is able to get position and go to work. I agree that she needs to iron out her footwork, as her attempts to get through traffic often result in some pretty clunky looking moves and shots. She's very slithery and creative directly under the basket and uses good athleticism to get off shots in traffic, but if she's more than 5 feet away, she gets her feet all tangled up and throws up some wild shot half the time.

It would also be nice if she could shoot from the outside, but until she can at least do it in practice, I'd rather she stopped trying it in games. It's a wasted possession when she shoots right now.
