I decided to run an experiment for the first two home games of the season. I parked in near the exact spot on the north side of campus.

For the Georgia Southern game, I waited to leave through the double zero's on the clock, in fact, all the way through the band playing "Let Us Break Bread Together On Our Knees".

For Northwestern State game, I left at the end of the third quarter.

My findings:
It took more than twice as long for me to get from Roosevelt Street to turning onto Government Street downtown leaving the game at the end of the third quarter compared to leaving at the end of the game.

However, considering the amount of time required to end the game, the difference in the two journeys was that I arrived home roughly 30 minutes later when staying until the end of the game compared to leaving at the end of the third.

What does this mean?

For me, barring unusual circumstances, I will likely resume my practice of always staying until the very end of the game. Make your own decisions. It's a free country.

UPDATE: for the Utah St game, I parked off of Aster near WCA and left after halftime. There was zero traffic. The walk to my car took longer than the drive home. Despite stopping for a hot muffuletta at Anthony’s on the way back, I made it home and took a shower before the start of the 4th quarter.

I’m convinced that the cops shutting down roads and contra flow make traffic worse

I'm convinced you are correct. The contraflow is poorly done with officers arbitrarily blocking travel lanes. In addition, by blocking off many roads unnecessarily, it funnels traffic into natural choke-points, forces motorists to make long circles around town to reach their destination, and reduces the number of redundant routes that motorists can take to reach their destination, which could take pressure off of arteries. Rather than diffusing traffic naturally along all available routes, traffic is instead channelled and straight-jacketed onto a select few clogged routes.

If it were up to me, there would be ZERO traffic controls on gameday, even on campus, with the exception of blocking traffic for the band to come down the hill and enter the stadium.

The flow plan only works if everyone on campus doesn’t live in Baton Rouge and o it parks on a side of campus closer to their home destination.

Huh?

The only people truly inconvenienced by contraflow are maybe people in Riverbend.

Anyone else is just lazy or doesn’t know how to read a map.

Maybe people just want to leave when the team is up big and the backups are in.

Why the frick do y’all care so much what other people do?

If it’s a close game in the SEC more people will stay. This shite isn’t rocket science folks

You deserve points because you at least decided to test your hypothesis. Too many people out here making unfounded claims in either direction.

The stadium atmosphere is more fun when the stadium is more full.

Except, lately, they've been bailing even during these.

Well, you figure out a way to keep 60-80k people from leaving early. Until then, they can do what they please with their money.

Love the analysis

Personally believe there is a problem somewhere w all the people leaving early

It appears (on tv) the upper deck is relatively full. I'd find out why and allow them to move to lower section on fourth quarter

They're free to do what they want. I'm also free to criticize their decisions. They are also free to criticize my criticism of their decisions. It's a kinda free country.

The problem could be solved by letting everyone who left early fend for themselves in normal traffic patterns. But as soon as the game is over, if the policing authorities could come to an agreement, is that NO traffic would be allowed inbound toward LSU and ALL MAJOR ROADS would be contraflow for the next hour. No exception. Nicholson, Highland, River Road, Perkins, Stanford, all of them so everyone can get to the interstates, the bridge, Airline Hwy, etc.
I realize that it bottlenecks where you have to squeeze from contraflow into the normal lanes but traffic control at those locations can direct that. I think you could clear out those 50,000 vehicles in one hour if we had a concerted plan.

You realize that you measuring this with 2 push over games - wait till sec games. Your study needs a larger comparison

Shut up dick head. Youre free to do whatever you want. Its still a bad look for our school when 3/4 of the stands are empty midway thru the 3rd quarter.

I personally dont understand why people wait all year for 7 Saturday nights in TS...only to get their fat asses up and leave early.
