And ensures that LSU should be well positioned to attract top notch coaches. The money is there.

I think the players would sell their fancy lockers for cash if allowed

Does the school publish how much of the profit from the program goes back into academics (i.e., as opposed to being reinvested in athletics)? I.e., I know football makes tons of money, but after you offset the sports programs that lose money, and reinvest into athletics generally, how much is left to support the school?

LSU Athletics gives the academic side around 8-10 million each year. LSU Athletic department is one of about 5 Athletic departments that do that in the country.
Besides assuming maintenance on the multi use facilities like the PMAC, I think they also donate about $10-12M to the general fund. Are they not one of 8 or 10 athletic programs that do not receive any money from the university? Also seem to remember the linkage between success of athletic programs to donations to the general fund.
I know that there are those who have more detailed info than the above who will correct me.

This locker room was privately funded btw. Not through sales revenue

LSU is probably one of the only major schools whose athletic fund is bigger than their academic endowment.
The academic endowment is PATHETIC, and just shows that Louisianans, in general, value entertainment over education.

I don’t have the link but it is well known Saban is technically under paid by Alabama for the overall success that he brings the entire university.
A good sports program brings about from media coverage and marketing for your entire school. Also most people want to be part of a winner.

This is why student-athletes need to get paid. Here they are busting their tails on the field/classroom and for what? State of the art equipment & facilities? Nope. A better chance to make it into the NFL? Nope. Just a bunch of greedy executives making bank off our boys!!

Idk, but it seems like some people don't realize that sports and football mainly does have influence on prospective students that are just looking to go to school. Students want to go to a school that has a great student life as well, and athletics success and the atmosphere definitely play into a lot of these kids decisions on where they're going to school. Football is a huge part of LSU in regards to revenue and and many other factors that are influencial in LSU's success as a university. It's a fact.

Don't get hung up in looking for a "Profit" Number for LSU Athletics. It is a dangerous game for universities to publish profits because of the climate of players feeling like they need to be paid. They will spend as much of their revenues as possible and show a very little profit so that people can't say,
"Look how much money they make, they should pay the players because that is who is generating the ticket sales"

What? Why are you fabricating this? TAF has ~$500MM in assets. The LSU endowment is over $800MM.

What people don’t realize is that a top tier football program helps the university financially. You can look squarely at what Bama has done in the last 10 years. Win a national championship and your attendance will rise, which will in turn generate more revenue for a school to use. Most programs are now investing in different engineering and medical schools to help further develop ways to keep players healthy and on the field. These schools can then patent and profit.

In a way this is compensation to the players.
Regular Students don't get these kind of facilities for their stay on campus.
Regular students don't get their food paid for and with that nutrition center you can't tell me those athletes aren't well fed during their time on campus.
