Chad Jones' 6.2 total innings pitched in 2009 have become one of the most exaggerated rant legends

He pitched three times in Omaha. His first appearance was against UVA. He came in with 2 outs in the 7th inning and one runner on first base. He walked his first batter and then induced a popup. Louis Coleman came in to start the 8th.
In Game 1 of the title series, he came in to replace Coleman in the 7th inning with LSU down 5-3. He pitched 1 inning, struck out one batter and didn't give up any runs.
In game 3 of the title series, he came into the game in the 7th inning with a 9-4 lead. He pitched 1.2 innings, and didn't give up any runs, striking out 2.
Those are solid appearances, but for someone to say something like but not for a situational middle reliever, Paul Mainieri would have been fired a long time ago is just hilarious. To insinuate that Chad Jones was the difference between us winning a national title or not is very much exaggerating what his role on that team was. I'll go out on a limb to say had he not also been a starter on the football team, no one would be talking about him 10+ years later, at least anywhere near to the extent he is.
