Aggie Road Trip Notes from an Old Tiger
Posted by LAD on 1/31/19 at 3:46 pm1162
Just getting back home and here are my observations:
1. A new Aggie joke was born Wednesday night:
How many Aggies does it take to cover Tre Waters?
Answer: We’re not sure, but it’s more than 5.
2. It was amazing to see the smallest guy on the court literally take his team on his back and pull them to a win.
3. Naz is still so far from NBA ready it isn’t funny,
4. Aggies don’t show up early for games, but they give up on their team really early. It was such a hoot to see them streaming for the exits with 4-5 minutes left (especially when we really were not clicking but were up by almost 15). Also, it was interesting that they only opened their GYM one hour before tipoff.
5. The Aggie girl dance team has not missed any meals.
6. Emmitt in his short shorts seemed to garner a whole lot of attention from the Aggie crowd. (Which,by the way, seemed much younger as a whole than our PMAC crowds).
7. Our team is REALLY close. I got an opportunity in an almost empty GYM to watch them interract before the game, and I saw their embrace of Tre when he came to the bench at the end. They genuinely seem to like each other, and this is huge.
8. In general, the folks in College Station were very hospitable and nice. We got some great brisket at C&J Barbecue.
9. On the way home, we made the obligatory stop at Buc-ee’s, which has apparently gone with the 100/100 strategy (100 gas pumps and 100 toilets/urinals). We witnessed the definition of culture shock when we saw 20 young Chinese students walk into a Buc-ee’s for the first time.
10. My wife summed up the Aggies well, when after seeing the strange fan behavior, juvenile type student yells and arm in arm stadium wide chanting, she turned to me and said “THESE FOLKS ARE KINDA DIFFERENT, HUH?”
All in all, a fun trip, and fun to see a Tiger BB team that is capable of still winning when lots of our guys had less than a great game.

Put #1 back in the box; it is terrible.

I worried about his safety as well. Wearing his Daisy Mae shorts is attractive to a certain Aggie element.

You don't say

It was funny to see their gay, milkman-looking, yell leaders in the arena last night. They have all those fine women and they let these figs run around...they're just gay.

Additional note by OP that was inadvertently omitted:
Prior to the game, Waters sat for a long time on the court by himself, with head bowed, and eyes closed. I don’t know if he was praying, meditating, using some kind of technique picturing nothing but net shots, or something else, but judging from the way he played last night, I hope he keeps repeating the same routine.

The "old tiger" in the OP made me think you were just finishing typing your thoughts from the football game for a second

Nope, i am old, but not quite that slow! I’ve had the good fortune to be able to go to the St. Mary’s BB game in Vegas, the Fiesta Bowl, and the BB trip to Aggieville. After each, I’ve posted my observations, tying to add in a little humor when I can. It’s been a lot of fun, and now that I have a chance to maybe see a few more things on the road, I intend to continue to post my observations for those who didn’t have the chance to make the trip.,
