he said this was defending miles...

52 4 and 5 star recruits

returning senior qb

the most expensive coordinators in all of cfb
the easiest schedule in over 2 decades

AND HE LOST 4 GAMES

when your entire head coaching career is built upon shite seasons, you dont get a pass for losing to a nfl talentless Mid Major and having the worst loss in the 100 + year history of the lsu vs msu game

I looked at the thread title, noticed there were 533 posts, and knew it had to be same cast of characters waging their weekly internet debate over coaches, a debate no one will ever win. It's sad, but also funny in a twisted way.

Once a football thread reaches page 5 or 6 and keeps growing, it's pretty easy to figure out what's going on without reading a post.

I think I'm still under the dillusion that we can have an actual football conversation where everyone realizes that anything said about the upcoming season is an opinion and that there is no right or wrong answer as of yet.

What makes me even more dillusional is that I sometimes believe I can be the reason for this to happen. Hahahaha.

You’re pretty poor at reading between the lines. What is your understanding of why Matt Canada is no longer here?

Oh, you must not know. Ree doesn't read between the lines. He knows exactly what's going on at the football complex at all times. Everyone else has opinions and conjecture, but he has facts.

This is from the thread I reference earlier. It was KLSU, not BilJ.
quote:

quote:
When I was a first-time head coach, I wanted to run the USC system,” Orgeron said at his weekly press luncheon Monday. “I loved the USC offense. And Noel Mazzone was my coordinator. And I forced the USC offense on him, and he didn’t know it well. Obviously, he’s a very successful offensive coordinator today (at Texas A&M). So, I thought that was a mistake on my part.

quote:
“I wanted to do everything,” he said recently. “Coach the quarterbacks, the receivers, and I didn’t know anything about them. But I wanted to do it my way. And I learned about that.”

quote:
That was a great opportunity for me,” Orgeron said Monday. “I mean, that’s a good job. But I didn’t do well, and I didn’t like it. I was mad at myself. The techniques that I used to create some of the best defensive lines in the country did not work as a head coach. You’ve got to look at yourself in the mirror. I’m the only person that can change me. So I had to get out of that mode and get more into the head coach role and delegate, and not be the hard butt on the staff.

LINK

Eta: I love this one:
quote:

“I had more success in ‘The Blind Side’ than my coaching,” Orgeron joked, referring to his cameo in the 2009 box office hit.

So, by his own admission LSU hired a coach that had more success as an actor than as a football coach. Brilliant.

I actually think we do get good conversation, even in this thread, but it unfortunately gets drowned out by the lunacy.

Posters like Ree will contort facts to support their position (O has 4 national championship rings). And if you counter their argument, you're an idiot (O's Ole Miss tenure is irrelevant).

That type of attitude kills good-natured debate in its tracks and yields threads like these with damn near 30 pages.

agree

I am just a LSU football fan that has hopes really every year that LSU will put a great team on the field and we know that did not happen. I get the feeling that CEO unlike most coaches tends to tell the truth from his heart most of the time. I think for O the hire of Canada was a awful hire and not sure after talking football with Canada, unless Canada blew a great deal of smoke up his azz , he made the hire.

The hire of Steve E has tilted most but I love it. I think I know what we will see and I am looking for the spring game to affirm what I am feeling.

If we are 3-0 after the first 3 games the season breaks down to Georgia and Bama. You guys see us falling off the map and I see this team as being crazy good on D and in college football those guys have made a strong run every year starting with crazy good D.

If LSU puts a balanced O on the field and I think they will and we see improvement of ST's which I think we will winning the 1st game and the 3rd game sets up a strong season.

Guys relax and enjoy your team - CEO is not the anti-christ of LSU football. Most of you are having a hard time seeing what O has had to do to get through a hire that he should have never made. Was that a big bad on his part - Yes ! Is it a hire he is doing his best to overcome - Yes.

Certainly a sensible and logical point of view and I agree if those things happen it will be a good year.

I am relaxed. I just think it sucks for LSU that we hired a HC NO other school would have hired and he in turn hired a OC that NO other school in college would have hired.

How anyone with any football common sense is not scared shitless by what is taking place within the LSU football program is beyond me.

But hey, even a blind squirrel can find a nut.

football common sense - trying to understand what that might be?

I have seen great coaches go south

I have seen great football schools with great coaches go south

I have seen teams that had nothing- go to something quickly

I have seen teams that no one picked win it all

You reason that CEO has no right to be the Head Coach at LSU so based on the fact that no one else would have hired him he has no chance. Steve E has nothing but a solid football history and stepped back to be a behind the scenes man. Coach O as the 3.5 million dollar man a year at LSU put his job on the line and hired what he felt was the man to run his offense. Now O and Steve are both in the same boat selling this dream to young men to come to LSU. They already have the number 1 QB in Texas coming this way and we will see how that works out but they are selling the dream. You are not buying it - so be it - but it will not be settled on a sports forum like this at all. It all starts in Dallas this year and I will be the guy in purple and gold cheering on Coach O and Steve to victory.

Gunnell committed? nope - Lsu is prime in his mind

I said we shall see how that works out

his mom likes Coach O's wife - it's a start

man he looks like the next coming of Troy Aikman

I listened to him talk about the family feeling around LSU but his has many a school visit yet to go but I liked the sell they put on him.

For someone that was saying don't speak in absolutes about the future, you sure are making plenty of proclamations in this thread.
