In retrospect I should have given him a chance from the get go and there's no excuse for the way I treated some of the people that supported him. I appreciate the kind words, but I was definitely wrong for the way that I acted.

Naw man, you were pretty willing to look at things objectively from what I remember. It's irrational to not have some skepticism with Coach O's ability with his history at Ole Miss and some of his early mistakes as the LSU HC.

What was irrational was an unwillingness by some to see the changes he was instituting from staff rebuilds including support staff, changes in practice style, game prep and technological support. Mastery of the transfer system and recruiting has been exceptional. LSU has gone from "old school" to "gold standard" in a relatively short time. The next challenge is how we handle success and sustainability.

i know what makes football coaches elite. O is not that. it's that simple

i'm not "Scared" of anything. i'm lulzing at the joke that LSU is right now

O could theoretically maintain a stable 3-4 loss program if our budget allows him to always have the top coordinators and he doesn't frick them up (which is possible). O simply does not have the brainpower to make LSU an elite program (esp since we're in the SEC West)

It wasn't just opinion, it was a hard stance. You argued it for yeas and deserve ridicule. Don't get your feelings hurt now

remember the insane group of about 6 or 7 that insisted they were the REAL fans since they wanted O to fail so we'd bet a "real coach"?

Idiots. Just stupid.

You and rickydaddy were the biggest O badgers on this board even when he took over as intern in 2016. Then he became HC and both of you went off. And then Troy came along and you thought we were doomed. These are facts.... yet it seems this whole past season you started coming around to liking what O was doing because there was nothing to complain about. You almost seemed like A fan.

Last offseason they traveled in herds. This offseason, most of that pack have all but disappeared.

I am not going to avoid my whipping in this post.

I was definitly a big O hater.

I was never a "were going to go 3-9" kinda guy, or opening rooting against him, but I did think he was essentially a Les Miles Reboot and that we would be stuck at the 10-3 plateau we had been stuck at for a long time.

I also thought he was going to make shitty/safe OC hires and hope talent woudl carry us over because we were slightly more open than Les Miles.

That being said, I was open to admitting I was wrong when he made the Joe Brady Hire. I didn't know if it would work out, but I liked watching O take a home run swing even if it turned out to be a miss.

Turns out it was a grand slam thats still orbiting the earth.

TL;DR I deserve my whipping, but I did jump on board at maybe the last possible minute.

It's super weird to make this pat on your back thread now.
I love this. The whining and complaining about Coach O made this board nearly impossible to read and post on for about 3-4 years but now that all the whiners were shown to be wrong, we're not supposed to talk about it.

Nothing wrong with jumping on board the train even if you have road rash from being drug most of the way.

I 'll say this,

There are posters out there who were equally wrong supporting every decision O made, and guys telling us how good our QBS secretly were in Spring practice in 2018.

O proved he is willing to do whatever it takes to win.

There is no shame about being skeptical or wrong. That would be most people. In my heart of hearts I thought he would be a transitional figure-the guy who got us from Les Miles to the next long term head coach. So I'm not giving anybody a hard time who was skeptical. What I take issue with is people giving opinion as if it were unassailable fact and then publicly and loudly going through the GRIEF PROCESS before the patient has even visited the hospital. People were writing O's obituary on this board before he ever worked a day as new Head Coach. And it just never stopped until one magical season...

You have to have a certain amount of humility when you are not in the room because there is no way for you to know what you don't know. And there has to be some room in there for serendipity, change, magic, good fortune, etc. The Universe will always surprise us. That's why pre-determined narratives ALWAYS fail. There has to be room in there for human behavior and unfolding events and all the other things that can happen that are beyond our knowledge.

I wanted Herman, Mullen, Fleck over O.

But, also started a thread in 2015 pleading for TAF/BOS/PTB, to get O and his piss and vinegar to LSU on Miles stale staff, whatever it takes, when the rumors were in the air..

And also stated in SEC Rant threads when SEC foes dogged LSU about T'Decline, that whomever LSU hired, would be LSU's third consecutive Natty winning HC..

I give myself a pass on the subject. Glad to be wrong.

I was completely, utterly, totally wrong about O as well. Still dumbfounded that "Ole Miss Wild Boyz" just won a championship.

You would also be in a position to know the details around Herman and Fisher, too.

Having now followed their progress at their respective schools, it is a good feeling to know LSU ended up on top regardless.

And not revisionist history either. It was called out to me prior to 2018 almost exactly as it has played out.

I still feel at the end of the day I 'd always rather oach at LSU than Texas or Texas A&M

there is a reason we've won 3 NC with out last 3 HCs and the've won 1 total NC between the two of them since the 70s.

I appreciate this. The posters I generally hate the most are the ones who think any kind of skepticism is no different than blind hate. I’m on board with your thread now.
