We have so many good big linemen: Shelvin, Lawrence, Fehoko, Logan, Ika, Farrell

And guys who are currently “OLBs” that can rush the passer: Chaisson, Brooks, Anthony, Thornton, Clark... Divinity if our compliance department wasn’t an enemy.

We need 4 of them on the field at a time. If not a 5-2. Queen and Phillips are the only true LBs.

We essentially have this anyway as far as personnel on the field. Difference is the gaps and how the kids are being used.

Lawrence is one of my favorite players and a warrior but hes just not athletic enough to pressure the qb consistently with how hes asked to.
Shelvin does great but his job isnt to create pressure.
Logan is Tyson Jackson without the sacks. Even though his body says he fits a 3-4, his style of play doesnt. Hes a 4-3 DE
Ika looked good last night but again in this defense he isnt asked to create pressure
Fehoko is a disappointment all around. Great teammate and his peripheral contributions are big but his play doesnt inspire confidence
Farrell is the best DE we have and it doesnt seem close to me. Think hes gonna have a good season next year.
Now put all those guys in a 4-3 with different gap responsibilities and most would fit better with their play style. Issue would be DE and why that spot could have as many as 4 in the current recruiting class. We just dont have the horses.

I'd like to see Lawrence play around 285-290lb
I think Shelvin and Ika would wreck shop in the low 300s. I know they are space eaters and aren't being utilized for this, but i feel like they are so explosive and could disrupt plays in the backfield if they were lighter. I agree about Farrell. He seems to get off blocks so quickly and make plays in the backfield, just looks dumpy body wise lol.

I agree with you. We were outmanned last night and it’s why we got ran on for 400+.

Constantly 6v7/8 every possession.

This is a horrible idea...the 3-4 is our best scheme so long as we execute properly!! As former defensive player I think the 3-4 is the most perfect base defense to start with if you have the Joes to run the X’s and O’s

You can still mix it up. Last night we got stops when we mixed it up. Running a base 3-4 when they have 7 blocking with a running quarter back like that is pure fricking stupidity.

Walk the other backers / safeties up. Make him throw. Bring alll out blitzes. Don’t be ignorant and stubborn like Aranda was last night.

No we dont. We do have a bunch of mediocre defensive tackles and Shelvin.

We usually do.

Except in obvious passing situations.

This is true, no doubt. Though I think Lawrence has just not been able to ever overcome his injuries, and Logan seems to have gained some weight and gotten out of shape while he was out with injuries. Regardless, we are who are at this point. But thank God for Shelvin—he has been BY FAR the defensive MVP this year.

No 4-3 or 3-4 gonna fix Delpit taking bad angles and running away from the guy with the ball on 2 long touchdowns as well as other big plays in the game

Delpit and Brooks should have been playing right by the LOS with Chassion, Phillips and Stevens there to clean up. If we had this style of defense last night we would have dominated that team. They may have gotten off a pass or two but those rushing plays would have been stuffed behind the line before they got started. All those guys are great at the LOS and behind it. Delpit needs to be taken out of his covering duties and put near the LOS IMO. I might even have Stevens covering before Delpit at this point. We could have played Flott or Ward at the cover 1 spot last night. We didn’t need size. We needed speed to the ball.
