3 question marks I still have for next years team
Posted by HTX_LSU on 12/23/22 at 3:53 pm1532
Center, I don’t really watch the OL play esp the interior guys, is Charles Turner good enough? I saw some ppl saying he gets pushed back too much.
Linebacker, if Perkins is gonna play there the other backer needs to be the general of the defense that clogs up the middle so Perkins can do his own thing, I don’t think Penn is that guy.
Whatever position Sage Ryan plays, I don’t feel comfortable when he’s on the field, his feet aren’t quick enough for the SEC

Turner got bullied in the Arkansas A&M and Georgia games. Hopefully an off-season of knowing what to expect makes him a little sturdier in there. His snaps were always on the money

Martinez looked good playing C vs UAB and has a more ideal build for the position. If the staff doesn’t bring someone in, I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes the starting role.
That would be Tolan. The staff is high on him and he started getting reps later in the season.
Ryan is a Safety that has played out of position due to numbers. It can be argued he’s undersized for Safety, but it’s his natural position. Brooks needs to play Nickel.

Sage Ryan is fine. He played well against Moose just couldn’t finish the play. His positioning and coverage were fine

He was on the field a lot. He had a few bad plays. Most of the plays he was on the field there were no issues with what he did. He also had 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.

Outside of Perkins I don’t know who we have that’s a proven commodity at LB. Maybe Penn makes strides and becomes a more consistent player. Savion looks good but he didn’t play a ton. He could be a stud next year. After that kind of a question mark until we see them in action.

It doesn’t appear that you watch anything. Try to drink less on game days.

In the A&M game? He was all over Moose. Great coverage on the TD Moose just made the play.
QB is the only position you have to be excellent to great at to win a championship. That’s the biggest question. The play last season was not remotely close enough because they were on his arse late in the season.

Obvious connection with Denbrock.
Why isn't he here yet?
He missed the season with a knee injury. He's also been in the Portal since Dec 1.
He hasn't visited and there's no record of him getting an Offer.
If they Offer him then fine. But I don't think it's a priority or they would have at least Offered him or other Centers like Nugent from Stanford who went to Michigan.
quote:I thought going into last Spring he would be the starting Center.

I don't know for certain but he may have been a guy that had to acclimate to OLignment. He was a little nicked up in the Spring but he looked heavy to me and I'd guess he was having to catch up with school and make some grades. Similar to Bradford. Brad just got with the program a little quicker.
Turner is a very good tactician and knows what he's looking at on the other side of the ball but he just gets overpowered. I've often said I believe he could be an All Conference performer one level down.
quote:I certainly expect more reps for Tolan next season. As far a Penn goes, he improved throughout the season and we have to remember that the light didn't really come on for Queen till his last year. I expect Penn to be much more consistent.
That would be Tolan. The staff is high on him and he started getting reps later in the season.
quote:I thought he was a Safety, too. But when the PT at Safety opened up they put him back in at nickel - where he has been playing - and moved Greg to safety. Wherever it is he plays, I'm looking for the light to come on for him, too.
Ryan is a Safety that has played out of position due to numbers. It can be argued he’s undersized for Safety, but it’s his natural position. Brooks needs to play Nickel.

I think Penn could mature in this his junior season. He's a run stuffer and played a lot. Turner at C had the smarts to get the job and hold the job. I expect him to add some muscle with this being his money year. Martinez is going to really push him, or at least I hope so. Great depth is a good thing.
