If I do anymore talking/reading about LSU football, I may actually vomit. So I started looking ahead at something more positive.

Here's an early look at what our potential roster may look like next year, barring any major mishaps. Only one I could remotely see leaving early for a Pro Career, is Sampson. And I think that is extremely unlikely.

This year is an unbelievable turnaround from last, but one thing we are seriously lacking that will be the deciding factor in close games is quality/experienced bench players.

The future is definitely very bright for LSU BBALL. Especially from the product we have been used to seeing with Jones thinking he could roll-over timeouts from game to game, like unused cell phone minutes.

But anyway, pick your main starting line-up for 18-19.

F - K.Bigby-Williams - 6'11" 230# - Sr.
F - G.Alexander - 6'6" 210# - So.
F - M.Kiir - 6'9" 200# - So.
F - W.Sims - 6'6" 220# - Jr.
PF - N.Reid - 6'9" 220# - Fr.
PF - D.Days - 6'7" 218# - Fr.
PF - E.Williams - 6'7" 215# - Fr.
G - J.Smart - 6'4" 185# - Fr.
G - B.Sampson - 6'5" 185# - Sr.
G - B.Rachal - 6'5" 215# - So.
G - T.Waters - 5'11" 167# - So.
G - S.Mays - 6'4" 200# - Jr.
G - D.Edwards - 6'3" 210# - Sr.
G - M.Graves - 6'2" 185# - Jr.

Biggest difference people will wow about is the front court. We will go from a team that struggles to protect the rim and rebounding to a team that will strike fear into opponents trying to drive to rim and one that will create extra opportunities for us offensively while all-but erasing 2nd chances for opposing teams.

Bigby-Williams is a bigger addition than many think, the kid was JUCO player of the year for a reason. His rebounding and defense is off the charts good.

It will probably be Bigby-Williams, Reid, Sampson, Mays & Waters to start the season. Smart, Days, E. Williams will all play a lot, but I see that being our starting 5 out the gate. Lots of experience with the 1 young guy in the mix.

Folks have to keep in mind the experience Mays brings and chemistry with Waters he'll have at that point running a dual PG system.

Sorry, but that would be a completely disappointing year. LSU would start arguably the best PG in the SEC (Waters). The backcourt would have a ton of experience - Mays, Sampson, Edwards. You then combine that backcourt experience with a very talented and versatile frontcourt and LSU could be a very, VERY, good team. The holes that are present this season would be gone

The expectations should be low this season. But next season LSU should seriously compete for the SEC title. A 9 seed and one NCAAT win would be an under achievement.

Wade's recruiting efforts have expedited the process. Next season wouldn't be a "building" year as much as it will be "built".

Of your 13 man roster, 8 would be 4 or 5 star recruits. And the ones that aren't would largely have a ton of experience. Mays and Sims would be third year players to go along with two JUCO seniors with major college experience - Edwards and Bigby-Williams. Assuming LSU can sign Williams, the 18-19 season isn't a step towards "next year". It IS "next year"

Bro thats basically what we did with Mickey and Martin. That means we would perform at a Johnny Jones level, which would be an utter disappointment with our potential roster last year.

I cannot fathom how anyone could say being 2 years removed from being in the SEC cellar to being a #9 seed in the NCAA tournament is "completely disappointing".

Will Wade stated it's going to take 3 years. If the arrow is trending in the right direction, you really should not be disappointed.

It's amazing what a coach can do. Will Wade is gold.

Waters
Mays
Sampson
Reid
Williams

This is my guess to start the season, but Smart, Days and E. Williams will get around 20 mpg coming off the bench

Because you evaluate expectations based merits of each individual team vs. some arbitrary number of years it takes to "rebuild"

Assuming LSU can sign Williams and everyone from this year's team who is scheduled to return does, then next year's team is absolutely loaded. Next year's expectations will and should be based on the talent level of THAT SPECIFIC TEAM, not the perceived "next small step" in the rebuilding process. Wade skipped a lot of those "steps" by signing a freshman class that could/will rival the bluest of the blue bloods in college basketball and adding it to what will be an experienced core group. In fact, it's entirely possible, if not likely, that LSU could take a step back in year 3 because of attrition. Sampson, Bigby-Williams and Edwards will graduate after next season. Plus 1 or more of the Freshman COULD leave for the NBA as well as Waters. LSU could arguably have a far less talented team in year 3 of the Wade era. Growth of a program doesn't have to be completely linear. Particularly in basketball when 2-3 players can take you from ok to good or good to great in a hurry.

Next year's (presumed team) being a 9 seed and finishing in the middle of the SEC pack would be disappointing not because it's only year 2 of the Wade era, but because the mix of talent/experience on THAT particular team should be able to produce results far greater than just average.

I couldn't agree more, TBird. That lineup also leaves our bench stacked.

I've been watching a lot of film on Reid & he is the real deal.

Whats also interesting to see how it plays out, but You also have another option in Kiir that can be inserted into the lineup to give you some length under the goal. I know he is really raw but another year with Wade and the weightroom and he will more polished & ready to hang physically in the SEC. I'm excited to see where he fits in this new group coming in as well.

Sims is also going to give you experience off the bench.

Shaping up to be a very well-balanced roster, the likes of which we haven't seen in years in the PMAC.

Losing Reath and Epps is no small issue. Both have their strengths, like stepping out and hitting threes. With the new big men we need to at least replace that capability in order to start with staying even.

Reid, Williams and Bixby-Williams will each add an edge under the basket in terms of defense and rebounding.

Also, don't underestimate Kiir. He is very athletic, but raw. Under Wade, he will come of age next year and be a real blocking and rebound machine.

If the bigs can step out and knock down 3's and the team overall continues to improve defensively, look out! We will easily make the field of 64 and have a great chance to go deep towards the final four!

Only thing I am worried about is Mays or Sampson leaving. One of them will get a minutes cut with Smart coming in.

I also hope we can keep Alexander and Rachal. Both have a ton of potential and we really need 6'6-6'7 wings that can defend and shoot.

Next year is going to be a lot of fun baws. We will compete for an SEC title. We already played 2 of the better SEC teams and narrowly lost to Kentucky and took down the faggies with a significant talent gap.We are gonna be rolling no Vaseline style next year. RAW dogging.

11-7 would have us at 4th in the SEC. That's not "middle of the pack," IMO.

Our bigs will be a mystery in 2018-19. That's not the formula for winning the SEC.

The problem with thinking that we should win the SEC title in 2018-19 is that the SEC has become much stronger than in previous years. And it is stronger top-to-bottom. Winning 11 SEC games in WW's second season would be a good accomplishment in the current SEC climate.

Now, with more good recruiting, 19-20 might be the year we can win the SEC. It is going to take more than just one great recruiting year to win titles and advance far into the NCAA's.
