Trey Quinn- tearing up at SMU, would be SR
Tyron Johnson- have a nice season at OSU, would be JR
DIarse- starting at TCU
Lindsey Scott- tearing up at Last Chance U
I think im missing a few.
This isn't to put blame or take blame off of O. This is just about analyzing the facts. Consider how talented our team was last year, how many starts and games played our guys on last year's team put in to make them so formidable. 2-3-4 year starters. All Americans, all conference players, high draft picks, some of these guys are STARTING in the NFL right now. They were replaced by Freshman or guys who have never started a game at LSU. Jamal
Adams is starting in the NFL. Grant Delpit was in high school a few months ago. Think about that discrepancy. This isn't just a position thing, it is a whole team thing.
Yes MSU whooped our arse. We should never lose that bad, but a team this young and who's returning players lack talent is not immune to a loss like this. This was a 3-5 loss team coming in. We lost a game, so what. This team wasnt winning the SEC West or anything of that sort. If the team fails to improve week to week, then yeah, flags should be raised. We don't know shite after this week other than our youth and lack of veteran talent showed. Good coaching will use this as a learning experience. We shall see how it turns out

I had LSU going 9-3 because of the reasons in this thread
but I never dreamed we would be completely and utterly dominated by Ms State like we did
People are acting like this was a normal loss. It wasn't.

Beckwith was replaced by White, who is a badass, not Thompson.
ETA: And as I mentioned when we had this discussion a month ago, it isn't that it's inconceivable LSU could lose 5 games, it's that 5 losses would be a strike against O. Because, you know, the goal at a bare minimum should be to avoid the worst possible scenario.

I hate to single guys out, but I just don't get the lack of production from guys like LaCouture and Gilmore. It's mind blowing how little push these two get. If they just fell down on the snap they would likely be more disruptive.

Corey Thompson has been good this year so that's a wash and devin white has been just as good if not better than beckwith.
Obviously we miss godchaux and Adams a lot.
This isn't an excuse though because LSU loses players to the draft every year. 13 guys or so left one year and we were fine on defense the following year.
Tired of the young excuse. State's best player Saturday was a sophomore as was ours.

technically donnie alexander took over beckwith's spot on the inside and white has taken Riley's spot as the other ILB. my point is, 2 in, 2 out. Thompson is playing the F where Bower played last year but his snaps were not as abundant as Thompson's have been this year. Call it what you will. Was trying to keep my point simple

I agree.
It all starts with them. yeah we blew some assignments and didn't contain like we are supposed to on D overall, but that is fixable. What we need from those two isn't fixable, it's just a skill they do not have at this level.

So what happened with our recruiting 2-3-4 years ago to put us in this position? I thought we were still putting up top 10 recruiting classes every year?

No, your point was to avoid the productive replacement and being able to mention the converted safety even though it is a different position. If it's 2 in 2 out why not just mention the 2 who actually replaced them?
Bower didn't really have a position in this defense. The F is more of a normal LB type, like Thompson, so he was basically limited to that spot on pass rush downs and backing up Key at F.

our weakest positions in my eyes, WR and OL, have been decimated by attrition.
the defense is just young. Best player has been fricking off all summer. There is talent there. Dan Mullen is a great offensive coach with an all american type dual threat QB. He ran circles around us.
I reckon 6 weeks from now our D will not be seen in this same light.

I agree, hopefully the season doesn't get derailed before making it to that point.

I didnt mention Devin White because he was one of the for sure starters coming into the season after the way he played the last 2-3 games of the season last year. There is no conspiracy
I mentioned Greedy Williams and he has played great. I mentioned Guice. I haven't purposely omitted guys playing well
Bower had a position he just wasnt used much and didnt really fit what Aranda's wants in his F backer because he was built more like a DE. Aranda is playing more with 4 LBs this year, so for all intents and purposes, i replaced Thompson as a starter for another starter. Not a seldom used guy like Bower.
Fact is surrounding Thompson is he has never played a game at LB before 3 weeks ago. You interpret that how you will

Thompson has been one of our better players this year so what's your point?
Posted on 9/18/17 at 3:55 pm to sunnydaze
yeah Thompson has been the Debo/Riley of this year so far

people say this, but you can't quantify every year like this.
we lost our top 5 tacklers
we lost all of our front 7 disrupters outside of Key.
we returned 4 total sacks from last year outside of Key
DL- Godchaux, Bower, Lewis Neal
LB- Beckwith, Duke Riley
CB- Tre While, Jamal Adams, Thomas
That's a big time gutting at each level and hard to recover from in just 3 games. It's going to take the whole year to set up another elite defense for next seasons

he was great our first 2 games against terrible competition, i didnt notice him Saturday.
my point is he will likely have some ups and downs just like anyone else playing a new position for the first time. Or someone that has missed 2 full seasons because of injuries
