By your logic, they sucked because they didn’t each shoot 90% from the FT line

I keep seeing ppl call the 06 team very experienced and that they played together a long time and that’s just not true. We had 3 freshman starting on that team, 1 sophomore and 1 senior. Our only bench contributors were also freshman so this narrative is totally false. That team was all defense, we had stoppers everywhere and had a lot of rim protection. Offensively it was Baby in the post or kick outs and set pieces for Mitchell. We had no ball handling at all and went on long scoring drouts against good teams all the time. That team was great because they were great on D with unique players like Tyrus Thomas, who could cover ground like a small forward, and Garrett Temple who was an extremely long college guard that could shut down perimeter scorers. We had enough raw offensive talent with Baby, D-Mitch and Taz to get by most teams and we made a great run in the tourney. The team we have right now is far more talented and far more versatile but we’re in a much more difficult SEC and college landscape overall now that high schoolers have to at least play 1 year in college.

Very little similarities. The 2006 group was a GREAT defensive team. This group is getting better, but no where near the 2006 team.
On the other hand, this team is much better offensively than the 2006 team.
The only similarities are that KBW is a lot like Tyrus Thomas and that team was led by young players (Temple, Thomas, Davis, Mitchell) were all 1st or 2nd year guys. Aside from that, two VERY different teams

I was 18 at that time. That team played excellent D and GArrett Temple was a lockdown perimeter defender. They had so much skill and athleticism. Ty Thomas was an athletic monster and shot blocking machine. Big Baby was very smooth and could shoot a great mid range. However that team could not shoot at all from the outside.
That was their only down fall.

are there similarities you see between this team and the one from 2006?
Eh not really. 2006 team was built around defense.

The 2006 team spent 1 game ranked prior to league play. After a loss to Houston, they fell from the ranks. They entered league play with an 8-5 record, however, their last game prior to league play was an action packed 1 point loss to #2 UCONN that gave serve to the national media that LSU was for real and to NBA scouts that TT was a rising star to pay attention to!

We have a solid 4 players off the bench. Williams, smart, days, Edwards.

For some reason I thought that UConn game was earlier in the season. What a game that was though.

I think experienced is the wrong word... What I feel like most mean (I know I do) is they'd played together for a long time prior to LSU
Also, Garrett Temple was the best lock down defender I've seen in my lifetime, he put on a clinic against JJ Reddick

Taz was a great defender as well

I remember a terrific inside/out game with that team. We fed Davis on every possession, and he could power up or dish back out for a three.
This team really doesn't have that.

Good call. He logged 11 minutes in that game. 11 excruciating minutes. 3 turnovers.

I can tell you Tack getting hurt early in the year...absolutely the turning point.
Moved D-Mitch to point and no way we win the SEC or go to the FF with Tack at point.

The 2006 team wouldn’t only have 2 losses in the SEC in today’s SEC. That year UF was the only good team. Kentucky still had Tubby. This LSU team is more talented and athletic without a doubt. We’re deeper as well this year. If we can keep playing D watch out because this team can score on anybody. Imo this years team can be better
