Is this what happens when you hire pros instead of ex players?

College baseball players aren’t even the best players coming out of high school most of the time.

You're not wrong. Just wish there was a way to get the cream of the crop onto college campuses rather than losing them to the minors.

I would have bet a lot of money that if you told me we’d have 21 homers at this point...Beloso would have more than 1

College baseball has improved over the years. Over 75% of the majors is now made up of college players

ETA: can’t find a link but it was a stat on tv the last time lsu played in the cws. Granted this is a player that played any type of college ball to include juco and not necessarily earn a degree

There's no way that's close to right. Are you including minors too?

MLB is definitely under 50% range former college players I'd think.

Here's last year with 1800 total spots available due to covid shutting down MiLB and each team with 60 roster spots, just over 800 were Division I, II or III college players.

LINK

That's only about 45% (807/1800) being made up of former college players, but this does leave out JUCO, which I doubt gets it close to 75% still. Maybe up 50% or so.

What if you remove the foreign players? Yeah they get recruited but i would think they're more likely to take a small deal +minor league peanuts in the later rounds than an American.
