Every time there is a coaching change the school takes a hit in recruiting, so I expect no matter what LSU does there will be a short term hit. But who's better for LSU?

No one can answer that question without knowing who a new coach would be. Bad thread.

Coach O probably reduces the recruiting blow we take better than anyone else could in this situation. He's been on the phone with every local HS coach since before LSU even hired him.

IMO, coach O doing a great job and winning out this season is a better situation for us, especially recruiting-wise, than any potential other hire.

It depends on who is the new HC, I read that RB Akers wants coach O or Jimbo to be the HC. I do not want Jimbo as HC. I say let the season play out as this defense just gets better with each game and so does the offense.

What's better is always a good head coach. LSU fans need to get out of the mindset of losing a recruit or two because of a coach. Good players will always come to LSU regardless of the coach. I'd give up any 5 star we could get for the next few years if we could just get Herman to coach 4 stars

So because Houston lost to Navy that means that Tom isn't a good coach? Are good coaches never allowed to lose games to inferior opponets? shite happens man

Don't know if it's the coach as much as the timing of the announcement of the hire. There are articles circulating that suggests that Coach O is seeking the full time coaching position. I mean how much can he really say to a recruit who is considering LSU...he might or might not be hired for the head job? For some people that's just not good enough.

Wrong question. Which coach will us take from where we are currently to where we want to be?

Has won how many games at home in a row?

That was a competitive road loss with many miscues and they still nearly pulled it out.. even though this is still Houston we are talking about.. not exactly a loaded roster..

We legit needed Houston to lose a game or two this season to have a better chance any ways..

You see what Herman can do with an offense, and he has shown to maximize the talent he does have.. you've seen what he can do with elite talent versus elite defenses as well.

Tell me more about Saban's perfect record pre LSU?

quote:

Michigan State 1995–1997?—?Beginning in 1995, Saban moderately improved MSU's fortunes, taking the Spartans to minor bowl games (all of which they lost by double-digit margins) in each of his first three seasons. From 1995 to 1997, Michigan State finished 6–5–1, 6–6, and 7–5. In comparison, MSU had finished 5–6, 6–6 and 5–6 (prior to NCAA forfeits) in 1992–1994. 1998?—?On November 7, 1998, the Spartans upset the No. 1 ranked Ohio State 28–24 at Ohio Stadium. However, even after the upset and an early-season rout of then-highly ranked Notre Dame the Spartans finished 6–6, including three last-minute losses featuring turnovers, defensive lapses, and special-teams misplays, and failed to earn a bowl invitation. 1999?—?Saban led the Spartans to a 9–2 season that included wins over Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. However, the two losses were routs at the hands of Purdue and Wisconsin. Following the final regular-season game against Penn State, Saban abruptly resigned to accept the head coaching position with LSU. Saban's assistant head coach and successor, Bobby Williams, then coached MSU to a Citrus Bowl victory over Florida, giving the Spartans an overall record of 10–2 for the 1999 season. It would be the best season in terms of wins for the Spartans since 1965, and it would see the Spartans reach their highest ranking since the 1966 team.[21] Future NFL head coach Josh McDaniels served as a graduate assistant on Saban's 1999 coaching staff.

Herman is avg 1 loss a year at Houston (right off the bat) and beating much more superior teams with inferior talent. e would do just fine at LSU with this talent. Especially paired with Aranda.

Honestly the Tigers need to find an Offensive Coordinator, we have so much talent its ridiculous. We need to utilize the talent, we have guys like Dillon, Davis, Ferguson, even Dante Jackson isn't use to there full potential. We still don't use the spread enough. Hell I could set up several wild tiger packages. OC priority. Coach O find a OC quick! So we can keep staff intact recruit a top 3 class. We can flip Mosses!

Is there a coach who has never lost a game?

O is best for recruiting and best for the job if things keep goin well. No way is it good to lose Aranda Craig and Raymond which could happen. We need this class badly with all the departures at end of season. O is the guy. Look at all the big name coaches that are mentioned.. All having struggles. Lsu shouldn't make mistake USC did and pass on O if he does what he did there. Follow Clemson path. Dabo was position coach named interim. He was fiery and a great recruiter like O is and they realized that's what was needed. 6-2 or better it's a no brainer imo. 5-3 beating bama. Sign him up.. Then go get lane or sark as OC.. O wants a USC / Pete Carroll type offense. He will stay away from it and let them do their job. He will keep the staff. We will have the $ to pay an OC well and give asst's raises to stay because O won't be 5-6m $. Year coach if he's signed. At least not till he wins a championship.

I think that is a short sighted view. The question should be what helps LSU more over the long haul? If that means getting a new coach, holding on to most of what we have committed and maybe losing a few we wanted than so be it.

That's not saying Orgeron shouldn't get the job. I'm just saying keeping him solely to hold this class together is wrong.

Would I give up one top three recruiting class for a coach that can bring a championship to LSU? You bet your arse I would.

Wasn't it back in 2007 that Saban's bama team lost to LA Monroe in Tuscaloosa?
