Tyrell Ward Up To #18 In On3 Final Ranking

On3
I noticed Julian Phillips moved up as well and is still uncommitted. Are we still even in the mix with him at all?
quote:
Scouting Report: “Explosive, downhill wing. He has good length and positional size. Over his last year, he has developed a lot as a shot creator. Good in the mid-range, has good footwork off the bounce. Confident. Has touch, especially in the mid-range. He will need to continue putting on strength. The jump shot from three can be streaky. Is a quiet person by nature, but he plays with a passion.” – Jamie Shaw, On3’s National Recruiting Analyst

I have no idea on Phillips, but the fact he is uncommitted/unsigned is definitely a good thing.

I wonder if Ward can play the 2.
I've been thinking he's a 3 and he makes Wilkinson the 6th man.
But if he can play the 2, he and Wilkinson can be the wings and it takes pressure off the post because we have good size on the wings.
Of course, if we can pull, say, Manny Bates and K.J. Williams, we'll have more than enough in the post and Ward can play wherever.
And if Miller comes back then he's the 2 and Ward is the 3, and Wilkinson is our defensive sub off the bench. Which would make for a really well-put-together roster and a team that ought to win big.

To get him this late is VERY impressive for the new staff. He's a kid of the DC metro area from a longtime powerhouse program (DeMatha). There seemed to be every reason for him to sign with Georgetown (who has gotten many DeMatha players over the years). Not the least of which was the guy who had previously recruited him to LSU, Kevin Nickleberry, is now on the Georgetown staff.
That may suggest kids are receptive to the message McMahon and his staff are selling. Who knows if he will live up to a 5 start ranking. But this is a big victory for a staff that has only been in place for about a month.

quote:The fact that Auburn signed the Broome kid who is a proven college scorer & rebounder that plays the same position as Phillips tells me they've hedged their bets and have made their final offer so the ball is more or less in Julian's court. (Ooof)

We'd be selling CMM short if we didn't think he's been talking to Phillips at every opportunity since Aubie signed Broome - if not before.
If he walked in the gym door we'd have 3 freshman that could play with any 3 frosh in the country - frick Duke.
There is already experienced guard play, perimeter defense, and at least some basket protection and rebounding particularly from Coleman.
That's all with our 2 newbies but without AM/KJ/Phillips.

John Thompson is spinning. Georgetown wanted but didn't get a kid from DeMatha?!? McEnroe's voice: "you cannot be serious!"
I'll be surprised if Ewing makes it half way through conference play. Brandon better hope he doesn't get labeled a "Coach Killer"!
EDIT: "To get him this late is VERY impressive for the new staff".
I agree completely.

From the video I saw on Ward he is pretty special. Love his game and I think he is a damn good 3 that could play some 2.
I have not allowed myself to think about Julian Phillips sticking with LSU.
Y'all need to stop getting my hopes up.
Miller, KJ, AND Phillips...
