Trust me, I get it. Rarely has a message been so aptly named as The Rant! LSU fans, at least the ones who frequent this site, rant. They rant over anything and everything. The sky is always falling, they are always miserable. I get it. Rant on!

But should we? Over a recruiting class? One that is 15th with 15*, 12 4*s, and some really good 3*s?

In comparison, Miami is 8th. Everyone here, so enamored with rankings, would LOVE #8! Miami signed 23 players. 1 5*, 14 4*s, and 8 3*s with a class average of 90.99. LSU was 90.11. Point 88 difference! They signed one extra 4* and where we signed a 3, they signed a 4. That's it. 0.88.

But let's melt. Or, let's look at what we did get.

At QB, we whiffed. I'm one to think you want a QB each class. That becomes harder when you signed 2 the year before. Still, losing J Rodgers was bad. In-state talent and we got his WR, but he went to TCU. Not good. G Bohanon could also be good, but he went to Baylor. Not good. J Foster? Not convinced he will ever be more than a backup. Would have preferred several other players over him at other positions, but we didn't get them so we had room. Brennan and Narcisse could both be great, but another backup is needed. Fail.

At RB, there was definitely a need. There's some good talent coming back next year, but no proven star. But who did we miss out on? Joiner? Not convinced he is a true talent at RB. A Williams? He's electric for sure. But small and big grade risk? Slade? He's a slot receiver. I'll take C Curry over all of them! This kid is good. T Provens? Seems more similar to Slade to me. Maybe he can play CB? I think we did OK here and am supremely excited for next year!

At WR, no reason to rant here! Pay no attention to the rankings. There aren't many, if any, WRs better than T Marshall and J Chase. These guys are dynamite! Chase was robbed of that 5th star. People rant that we "lost" tiny J Watkins and even tinier L Keys? And D Jason? Whatever. K Jones and J Jenkins can be just as good, or better. This is one of the best groups in some time.

TE? Do we even have TEs? Canada was supposed to use them. He didn't. Oh, I remember. That's O's fault. Everything not good is O's fault. Everything good is because of someone else. Got it. That's the Rant! Still, Z Sheffer is pretty darn good. If he wasn't a TE (traditionally undervalued), he'd be ranked higher. G Beal? Like J Foster, maybe a nice to have because we ended up with room, but I don't think he ever really contributes at TE. Maybe he gains 40-50 pounds and becomes an OT. Who knows. We did OK at TE.

O line. Now here, surely no one is melting right? B Traore, C Wire, D Lewis, and C Smith are an excellent group. Excellent! All have 4* talent. Lewis would be if he wasn't JUCO. Smith would be too if he wasn't a Center.

D line? An even more excellent group than the offensive side! D Cotton is smaller, but electric. C Hines and D Rosenthal are massive human beings. Massive! Speaking of massive, D Livingston is the size of a building. And N Jenkins has a ton of potential.

At DE, are we melting over elite players like J Cherry and T Moore and D Scott? I hope not! Any one of these, or all three, could be next super stud rusher at LSU.

What about LB? We melting over M Baskerville and D Clark? If we are, we haven't seen them play. These guys are ALL over the field!

At Safety, we got one of the very best in K Joseph. Would have been nice to get an A Washington or J Foucha, but I see them as merely depth. Not future stars.

Now, CB. Here's the REAL problem. P Surtain was about as much a lock as you could expect, but we lost him. That hurts. A lot! But, as many said, he chose to follow and not lead. He chose the apparent easier path. Good for him. He could have played right away here. Maybe he does at Bama. Maybe his dad gets a job. Whatever. I like who we have in Greedy, Fulton, Vincent, Kirkland, and X Lewis. But it should would have be nice to add Surtain to that. Same with M Goodrich. I think he'll be a good one. Maybe great. But he got swayed. And since we were so sure we had Surtain, we basically passed on the likes of A Cook and N Joseph. Oh, and the melt over C Harris and E Smith? Not impressed with either. Not at all.

This class is FAR better than massive melt. Sure, a QB for depth and CBs were needed and would have been nice, especially the CBs, but this class is strong every where else.

But sure, let the melt continue! I know that it will. I trust and believe in the Rant!

A great read! Certainly much more true incite than most posts on this site.

Lsu is spoiled. Class star hype is far overrated. Great teams are built each with fewer recruiting stars every year. Build a team from the ground up. Build it in the trenches.

It's about building a program. It's about retaining players and creating an environment that players wanna stay in

Next year will begin to be defining moment in Orgeron's tenure. Let's keep our fingers crossed

Yeah. Saw that after. Thought I had taken it out, but didn't want to edit after-the-fact.

I think some guys get a look there, like Provens. Not sure I like Joseph there, but we'll see.

Winning will solve everything. The class of 19 is loaded so we need to do well this season, really well.

Yep, great incite

Plenty of us were fine with the way the rest of the class was handled. However, you have to do some real gymnastics to justify how the close was handled. You can’t have 2 guys at a position of need, with one actually willing to go ahead and commit, and come away with neither. That is flat-out mismanagement. Rankings may not be worth worrying over, but THAT is.

I have a request to coach O and the staff is this. Demand in a respectful way that all future recruits give their pledge before signing day. Otherwise you will continue to lose other recruits who really want to play here. This game played by Saban to have them wait till zero hour has worked too many times already. The program has become a punchline with a big laugh from the Saban followers.

No, you don't get it. The site is Tigerdroppings. The Rant is but one board. Your post is on the LSU Recruiting board.

I try not to melt over singular events or situations. I am however extremely critical. They are two different things.

I like to see it as 'milestones' and then go off 'trajectory' in achieving (or not) those milestones.

What I am looking at from the end of the 2016 (as interim) is a pattern on missing on 3 of 4 milestones. These can be games (MSU, Troy), decisions (too many), attitudes, etc.

I'm not at the point with some of the losses, some apparent/obvious repeats from the OM days, changes I expected from the Miles era that have continued, etc. That the trajectory is not a good one.

Now that I see, from my own personal perspective, enough data. Not hope for better, not fear of worse/change, not using history as an absolute predictor of future, this trajectory a line has been crossed. Just like with Miles, once that line has been crossed (in my own mind), it's done.

Time to move on. Again, just like Miles every delay from this point forward is only going to hurt. Example: if we hadn't delayed at the end of 2015, would we be dealing with Orgeron now? There isn't much upside other than getting to eat sand as you stick your head in it.

So to melt or not: IMHO, yes. It's now time.

May I suggest a tube of BBP (Boudreaux Butt Paste)that will soothe that chapped ache your experiencing. Relax and wait to see how things will develop. Your probably the one who brought the nails before Jesus was even arrested.
