re: This " All LA kids need to go to LSU " mentality needs to change

Some of this is because the La. players are genuinely interested in other schools than LSU, but a bit part is that the media wants some of our top players to wait and announce on signing day or after the UA game.
Has anyone ever thought that all these La. recruits that are LSU leans might be planning something like what those 3-4 guys did last year as they revealed they were going to Ole Miss at the same time on signing day. It would be Unprecedented if lets say 10 of the LSU leans, from La. or Tx. got together and decided to do a big announcement on Signing Day and are trying to keep up appearances, but are having a good time by taking their visits.

if you were a top athlete in the state and were banking on the NFL for your future, wouldn't it be smart to go to the program that puts more players in the NFL they anyone? If you want the education then I agree. I guess state pride means nothing. Being a fan isn't enough.
Im not talking about the kids who have a one track mind and its only to the NFL. There are some guys who dont make it to the nfl or know they wont make it to the nfl so they know they might as well get a great education. Winning championships is nice but so is getting an education that will help you make a shitload of money and be successful in life.

I agree with this. But LF or cam are NFL ballers barring injury or a huge flop. LSU is the best place for that.

Aren't you guys glad that I haven't posted in this thread? I needed to stay away

That's exactly what Im trying to say.
It goes both ways

Glad you bought that up. People like the op must not hear the stories of recruits signing with the schools that recruit them the hardest.
LF dad just said Alabama was recruiting his son the hardest. Does that sit well with me? I don't know. I know this, every tiger fan in the state wants to see these men in purple and gold.
Don't hound the guys, but nothing wrong with showing your state pride.

Noil talking up A&M and LF talking up Bama. The only reason they're doing that is so they don't feel that they HAVE to go to LSU.
That's not the "only reason." In fact it's probably not even a reason at all. They're "talking up" those teams because they are top level programs with great coaches and recruiters.

This mentality does exist based on the fact that eighty thousand thread are started every year about an LA recruit who decides to go to another school. We should instead move on and be excited about the recruits we did keep and the OOS recruits we pulled too.
Hyperbole.
And I think, as fans of LSU, we should expect that LSU (a top tier athletic program and the state's flagship) should be able to get the VAST majority of the elite recruits in the state. Which they do.
No one here doubts Miles's prowess as a recruiter

So, you want every Tiger fan to root for guys that leave the state and are direct competitors with us? This is Division 1 football, this ain't no scout jamboree. They leave, eff em, then beat em. End of story.
Idk about NeverRains, but my argument earlier in the thread wasnt what you're describing here. Of course I don't want La players to dominate us on the field. They're all tigerbait. My grudge is with the people who take it to personal lives by threatening to get the prospect blacklisted with potential employers. It's just a tad bit overboard in my opinion.

How about this? How about we let the coaches recruit the players, and then as the fanbase, we show the recruits the love that they want and the reasons why they would go to LSU. Instead, what I feel like we do is take all LA recruits for granted as LSU locks and then get pissed when it doesn't happen. I want the top LA recruits badly, and I feel the best way to get them is to convince them to go to LSU, not force them.

quote:I agree. That's why as a fan base we should strike the fear of God into their hearts before they make that decision. The Lord created these young men, placed them in Louisiana, and blessed them with football talent in order to entertain his chosen people, the holy nation of Louisiana. If they choose to go against God and leave the state, they are sinners and must be shunned. If they go to Alabama, they should be stoned. Unfortunately the government won't permit stoning Gumps, because ESPN forbids it.
I think in the end they will make the decision with their heart

I wish every recruit had the same pride for Louisiana as you do.

I saw an application for a $10/hr job about 6 years ago from Thomas Pittman, who signed with Florida. Had he gone to LSU, doubt he'd be applying for jobs like this. I bet his younger brother, Kirston doesn't have the same problem.

At this point, does LSU even stand a chance of signing any Alabama high school players?
Most of the posts I have read mention out of state players from Mississippi, TX, Okla., Florida, Tennessee and maybe Georgia, but I don't recall seeing much about any Bama recruits even listing LSU as a school they hope to visit.

Simply a matter of pride to represent your people, state, etc.

We don't need a wall around the state, just a fence. Saban is too short to get over even a five foot fence.
Keeping the kids LSU wants at home is a priority for LSU. The recent national exposure we have gotten has shown us that other kids want to come here too.
I have nothing against a kid who wants to get away from home and play out of state. Its a big world and sometimes you want to see what's out there. Or you have an overbearing family and want to get away - again, fine.
The thing is, go play anywhere you want. Just be advised when you don't make it to or even in the NFL - happens every year - you'll need a job. If you want to go back home and get a job, good luck getting a plum job back home after playing for Out-of-State U.
This is the big picture thing some of these kids don't get, because everyone is telling them - "I can put you in the NFL." I'll tell them - If you don't make it big in football, be sure you have a backup plan so you can make it in life.

Well Alabama prospects are a bit different. If they hate Alabama, there is a good chance they like Auburn. So, with the state of Alabama having 2 SEC schools, in the West, It would be tougher to pull talent from Alabama.
However some of our success in other bordering states is due to the fact that a lot of people from Southern Louisiana that had to start over after the hurricanes, ended up staying in Northern La. or went to a border state like Tx, Ark., Miss., etc...

I'm not reading all of these pages, but 1) I don't think any of these kids feel forced to go anywhere. They have stronger character than that. 2) I would go to Hawaii if I had the chance. It's only for 4 or 5 years and a great opportunity for something special. All that crap about having to go to a top school to get ready for the pros is a bunch of crap. If you're pro material the pros will find you.
